What is this disconnected connector for?

I'm assuming this is something aftermarket as I purchased my truck second hand, but figured I'd ask you fine folks to confirm. I have this disconnected connector where 4 wires seem to be going to ground. There are the two pictured squares that seem to just be grounded in the front of the engine bay at either side. The two white wires coming out of the left hand side of the connector in the pic go along the frame to the rear and look the same as the others but behind either tail light. The red wire is not connected to anything. This is not stock, right? What could this be for and why would it need 4 ground points?

Please excuse the filthy engine bay.

Yes, that is not factory wiring. I do not have any idea what it is for, but certain it is not factory.

That wiring looks awful, I’d work on figuring out what they are and ripping it all out to replace it.

Thanks for the confirmation! I bought this several years ago and am just now remembering that there was a trailer brake controller in the cab that I removed. I'm wondering if this connector is for that.

The terrible and hideous wiring is what I was in the middle of remedying when I saw this and decided to make the thread. Admittedly, much of the terrible wiring is my own fault, but that's what I'm trying to fix!

What in the world?? It sounds like you're describing these "pads" as being at 4 corners of the truck? Any idea where the other 3 wires go? I'd use a multimeter to see if those pads are actually connected to the body via continuity, though I'm betting they're actually not grounded, as that wouldn't make much sense to run grounds to the 4 corners of the truck. I've never seen anything like that and I've done a lot of different wiring installs with many different products. This must be something specialized and I'll bet those are sensors of some sort. Possibly a high-end security system with body touch sensors? Those are normally attached to the outer most panels though.

Looks like some sort of electronic rust preventative product.
    I would just remove it.
