In the ext cab there is a hole that you can see the ground through. It looks like it serves a purpose, maybe a center console for the ext cab? Previous owner had the truck registered as a handicap vehicle?

Drain hole for deep water crossings?

Looks factory, so likely related to the handicapped thing. I don't remember seeing anything like that on my extracab (but it was an older model, and a 5 lug).

Maybe a child car seat tie point?

My truck does not have a hole thru the carpet there, I had to remove the rear seat belts to have a place to secure the handcuff and shackles to.

That hole isn't factory, you're also missing the plastic trim piece that the seat belt restraints clip into.

Just look at the build thread
I've had three different XCabs (2002, 2001, 2003) and none of them have had that hole.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I wanted to share this. I had an old 1990's Jeep Cherokee. The back area had a spare, and a couple straps holding the jack in place. I put some subwoofers in the back, so I removed the jack and the straps. They were screwed into the floor boards. A couple days later, it smelled as if I had an open gas container in my car. Some investigating, I found out that FROM FACTORY, the screw was screwed through the floor boards, and into the top of the gas tank... Couldnt believe it...

I meant that it "looks" factory. Like someone went through a lot of effort to make it look factory(ish).

(I edited my post above after finding typo)

Is there an aftermarket stereo? Someone might have run power to an amp or sub back there by going underneath the truck instead of going through the firewall and cab.
