What is this on my tailgate?

Hey! I got a used 2018 Tacoma and the previous owner did some mods so I'm finding little surprises here and there. I was reading about tailgate locks and wanted to get one. Looked at my truck and... is this a tailgate lock? Just want to make sure. Noob here! Thanks!

If you're referring to the black piece with the 2 ribs on it......Nope, that piece is there for the "soft" close function of the tailgate.

I was gifted a generic master lock lock that slipped off and didn’t work for me. There’s a form-fitted lock you can buy that other threads have covered. Info on both is attached below. Consider also getting an OEM Or other locking tailgate “Popnlock”-style kit unless you expect to leave the tailgate down often.

If you can still lift out the tailgate then it's definitely not a lock
