Is it emissions related? If so, I think it has an extended warranty. Something like 5 years or 100k miles (need to confirm this).

8 yrs 86k miles is federal emissions warranty.

also cite that there is a tsb for the tundras for the same issue... squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I believe they quoted you replacement of valve and air injection pump. Which isn't hard to replace. Not sure if you're in a state that has strict emissions requirements. There's a company that sells replacement parts and a by pass kit, since it's only purpose is the help warm up the catalytic conver when it's stone cold. https://www.hewitt-tech.com/store/

yes but emissions is special and some have higher warranty periods

so, does that part fall under fed rules below ?

    it's 3/36 for everyone

    but more for these states

    CA/CT/MA/ ME/VT
    Secondary Air Injection System
    Secondary Air Injection Pump 7/70
Secondary Air Injection Control Valves 3/50

All you can do is call Toyota Corporate Office and complain. Right now it's probably only one part, but if you keep driving it chances are you'll runnin other parts. The dealership is playing off your ignorance and is hopping you'll cough up the money to replace the whole air injection system. I suggest to purchase and install that hewitt tech by-pass system. Hopefully after installing it you won't ever have to worry about it. If you do at least you only need find the one part that went bad and fix it! I ended getting a used air injection pump for $90, along with the by-pass kit.
