Is this strictly for 2012's??? Just asking because it appears many of you have a 2012. I got a 2015.

For the V6 engines: 2012 -2015 have the SAI system. There have been reports of failures on all years but mostly with 2012. For 2012 only, there’s the Hewitt bypass system. For all of the above years, HPTuners can disable that system entirely. Of course, this is an emissions system so disabling is for off road use only.

From my understanding, the 2012 didn't have a purge when you turned off the engine. So moisture stayed in the system and messed up the valve that's in it. The 13-15s fixed that with an engine off purge to expel the moisture but it's the little crappy foam filter inside that eventually disintegrates and damages the pump. Hence why you remove it and add that $15 Uni filter.

We see the same thing at the Lexus dealership I work at. I've seen it happen on quite a few GX models.

I have a 2013 4.0 Tacoma with this part. Does anyone else experience a sound from the filter after the vehicle is cut off? Is this normal? Is this the purge mentioned?

I'd say it's normal. Mine does the same thing. It seems adding the Uni filter makes it louder and more obvious.

My 2015 makes a sound right at 25 secs. after starting a cold engine. Not really sure how to describe the sound. Likely the system expelling moisture.

IIRC, the '12 models will only make that purge during initial start up on a cold engine. This process changed when the '13's thru 15's rolled out to also run the purge again after about 5 to 15 minutes after shutdown. Supposedly this refresh fixed the issues that the '12's were having causing the pump to fail and throw codes. I may have that backwards since I cannot find the source but I do know that there was a change starting with the 13's which fixed the issues the 12's were having. I hope this helps? I would do the delete prior to the pump failing though as in order to do the delete (if you do the computer flash method) the system needs to be working normal and not in limp mode.
