after replacing the clutch , my mechanic causally mentioned 2 loose wires that were hanging under the truck. i peeked under and found a plug on the passenger side , with no wires on it , and a pair of wires that mysteriously seem to go to said plug... i think its just for the dash light, however , im not 100% certain. everything else seems to function correctly but im not too keen on random loose hanging wires... everything has a place and every place has a thing....

Looks like a 4x4 indicator. And looks like your mechanic wasn't too gentle

if it's on the transmission it's got to be a 4x4 indicator light. turn 4WD on and see if the light comes on.

i have reverse lights , no 4x4 light , or an upshift light (if it even has one) 4x4 SEEMS to be working .... cant really tell on the flat ground. i see there is a few plugs on the t-case... is the 4x4 activated only by the shifter, or is there any electronics inside to make it work?

Off of the transfer case it is probably for the 4X4 indicator light on the dash since you said yours isn't coming on.

even more of an indicator its the 4x4 light. reverse lights don't care about a t-case.

whoever was down there must have been extremely careless when they did the work. I'd have the mechanic fix it cuz its probably his fault.

What's so lovely about taking your car to a shop is you can't prove anything. "I didn't do that. It was like that when you brought the car in."

Even in that pic you can easily see that the ends of the wires are shiny and freshly exposed. The mechanic ripped it loose when he removed it. There's your proof.

^^ like just said above. The mechanic did it pulling it down. If those wires were exposed for a while then the ends of the wires would be oxidized and or dirty like the rest of the surrounding area. Looks like shiny copper to me which would tell me that they were recently covered not exposed to the air or grime. I bet that if you were to pull the plug ends apart there would be 2 crimp butt ends still in there floating loose.

Lol. You guys have clearly never dealt with McCanicks.

You definitely need to show it to him and see what he says, maybe he's the 0.00001% that will actually take responsibility.

If this was at a dealer it would be a different story. You would probably have zero issues getting them to take responsibility. But, then again, at a dealer it probably would have been replaced and you wouldn't even have known about it. But, then again, at a dealer the technician probably wouldn't have been careless and ripped the plug out anyway.

I imagine we've all been there...
Your better off replacing/tightening the bolts yourself, for piece of mind knowing it's done right. The plug you can probably repair or just wire nut the thing and tape it up good.

tightened / replaced bolts last night . didnt get to the plug yet , but i now know for certain 4x4 isnt working . tried it out today in the current ice storm and slid around everywhere . is there some solenoids , actuators, or anything that work the transfer case? mine has the regular 4x4 shifter with no button, so i assumed it was completely mechanical... on a side note , looking at it again, i noticed yet another plug no connected to anything , with no apparent place to plug it in...

You'll slide on ice even with 4wd. Do you get any front wheelspin?

Make sure to find that mechanic on Yelp/etc and write a good accurate review, too.

i have made new leads for the weatherpack connector, i need a diagram to see what goes where, something tells me you cant get away with reversed wires on a computer controlled vehicle. i have a white with black stripe and a black with yellow stripe. the wires on the male side of the connector are grey and black .
