Right, I am glad I do not need a new car/truck at the moment, dealers raking buyers over cause they can and folks are falling for it.

Dealers aren’t doing so well right now because of all their shady practices. I don’t think it will be long before they’re a thing of the past. And I’m all for it. They did this to themselves.

That's probably the most nonsensical add on dealers have come up with. I was fine with overpaying for window tint and doorsill protectors on my 22, especially since it was available a month after I decided to buy and pretty much the exact model I'd have ordered if Toyota took orders (except for the color). But I've never had any success in getting dealers to budge on the add-ons, even back in normal times. I consider it a win if I can get them to be honest about the add ons and costs upfront, before we start negotiating price.

I think they are about at the end of their own rope, due to their own greed.
My GF bought a new to her 4R 6 months ago and her own father told her not to buy from her brother cause he’s a shyster.

Before that, a few years ago, She bought her nearly new Cherokee from him, and of course he didn’t make good on the repairs he agreed to. After multiple attempts, He finally told her, he didn’t have the authority from sales mgr and if she wanted to hold him to it, he’d have to pay out of pocket.

Now that it has been clay bar, take it to a reputable detailer to buff out the swirls the clay bar person added

Seriously, If you’re serious about your finish, go to a reputable ceramic coat business for a Teflon like finish.

To be totally honest, I think they lied about the nitrogen fill anyway. When I picked the truck up 3 weeks ago in 75 degree weather the tires were all at 34 psi on the dash. This morning at 35 degrees they were down at 29 psi. I thought the purpose of nitrogen was that the pressure stays more consistent? Considering the standard drop for regular air is one psi/10 degrees, I'd say they just threw green caps on and sent it. It'll all come out once I get my plates and send my review in to Toyota and on Google.

Considering the air you fill your tires with is 78% nitrogen from the start, I'd say the entire thing is a sham. I'd also wager that the nitrogen they're using to inflate the tires isn't 100% pure, and it's not like they're creating a vacuum to start with. Even if there is a true benefit to nitrogen filled tires, the benefit of raising the percentage from 78% to a little bit more than 78% is probably negligible.

Agreed that it's basically a scam. I'd expect it to do better than what I've seen though.

Side by side, my SUV with straight air vs. my wife’s sedan with Costco nitrogen fill there was definitely a difference in pressure drops on cold mornings. So anecdotally, I did notice a change.

However, one of the new laws being proposed for dealerships is supposed to bar them from charging you for value-less features like a nitrogen fill that has no more nitrogen than regular air.

Hate to throw chemistry into the discussion, but Ideal Gas Laws states that for any gas, pressure varies proportional to absolute temperature, i.e. “PV = nRT”. Thus whether Nitrogen or air, the pressure change should be same when gas is at a new temperature. How quickly the temperature of the gas change may vary from air and nitrogen due to other thermal properties that vary between gases plus how quick does temperature inside tire change relative to outside temperature.

I’m guessing the claimed advantage of nitrogen is it is an inert gas and will not cause oxidation of the rubber from the inside, which, I never though of as an issue needing a solution.

Ditto. A few extra points, nitrogen is a larger molecule than oxygen. So theoretically a larger molecule will not migrate through the tire as fast as oxygen, therefore resulting in less tire pressure loss, air being approx 21% oxygen. As others have stated, compressed air is appr0x 78% nitrogen. The extra 22% no being nitrogen will not make a significant difference in handling (maybe is you are racing F1 or IMSA) or the amount you have to add air to your tires. 100% nitrogen in tires is a gimmick and a waste of resources to provide to the average consumer. This all can be proven by the Ideal Gas law, more chemistry, math and physics, but in short, save your money and do not worry for 99.99% of the conditions.

If they insist on the nitrogen tire fill, ask them how they purge the initial atmosphere out? : )
