What is this that fell out of my dome light?

I installed the Meso Customs red led dome lights and I love them. After driving on some bad washboard roads, the dome fuse blew. I replaced it and it blew again. So I opened up the dome light and this thing just fell out. It was causing the short I guess. The light is working fine now but I could some advice. What is this and should I replace it? I believe it was originally above the lights, between the lights and the roof. I couldn’t figure out how to put it back - it was just rattling around up there. Fuse for scale.

 

I'm sure @MESO can chime in, but is that plastic? What'd the backside of the console look like?

 

Good call and good question. It’s aluminum. Backside of the console - not sure what that means but it was an open gap. This thing must’ve attached somehow but I can’t figure it out.
