I've been chasing a rattle and this morning was warm enough to finally get under and take a look. I found this thin piece of metal hanging down. The bolt that was in it did not have a large enough washer and it it came loose. It's not a thin metal. Very easily bendable by hand. Almost like a thick aluminum foil. I see it bolted to other areas under the truck. This one seems to have been cut so it only had one bolt hole.

Looks like some kind of exhaust heat shield. Are there any numbers on it?

Ripped mine off once they rattle. PITA to put back on when the bolts are rusty. They do help keep cab cool in summer when AC is used. Have to use fender washers unless the sheild has huge holes

The holes actually corroded bigger. The original size was correct for the bolts used to secure it.

Not a bad idea to remedy that.

Hot exhaust has been known to start fires when the vehicle is parted over dry grasses/brush. Like pulling to the side of the road or median that has not be mowed.

I use washers and rivets when one gets loose on the wife's subie. Fast enough to do, and easily removed with the drill if you need to. Also the aluminum rivets wont corrode like the original bolts.
