So we bought a 2017 Tacoma for my wife a couple of weeks ago. Found this plastic thing in the backseat. We have absolutely no idea what its for or where it goes? If it is even for the truck? Anyone out there know?

PRO TIP: IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE CABIN FILTER YOU WOULD NEED TO TAKE THAT OUT IN ORDER TO OPEN THE COMPARTMENT WHERE THE AIR FILTER IS

This place CAN be great resource OP, you just need to wade through all the "buyers remorse" threads first.

BTW, sharp truck in your avatar and welcome to TW.

LMAO I was just reading a buyers remorse one hahaha!!! We traded my wife's 2012 Camry for the Tacoma and we both love it! Its a great little truck! My only "complaint" would be that the truck will "surge" in RPMs when in drive and idling through a parking lot or when backing into a parking spot. BUT it seems to only do it when you are turning the wheel. Which make sense to me as the engine must be needing to increase the RPMs for the power steering. IMO 600ish is a low idle for a gas engine.

The computer is increasing the idle speed to compensate for the additional load placed on the engine due to the power steering pump. Will do the same thing if you turn on the A/C or defroster. This is a common complaint with many new vehicles irregardless of make/model. Some makes/models do this worse than others.

I use that what you call the surge, when parking i turn the wheel and it makes the little RPM increase for a split second, i use that to make the wheels turn slow instead of using the throttle.

Yeah I have a little bit of sense (not alot) so thats what I figured. We weren't worried about it. Gotta say that it did catch me off guard at first but I drive a Duramax diesel, it never needs to increase RPMs for anything, not even the AC.

Yeah it doesn't bother me, just surprised me at first. It is much more noticeable with an aftermarket exhaust. Don't think I really noticed it with the factory exhaust.
