Hello everybody big fan of the site, new member and just bought a 2010 access cab Tacoma.
I tore my back seats out cause they are useless and my poor bulldog and his giant head just cant keep balanced back there, and I was looking for a concealed gun rack area I haven't seen someone do yet.
I'm planning on hanging some hooks on the two C-channel struts to fit a rifle/shotgun on each and boarding it back up, fit with hinges and some type of latch. Then fill the floor level with the storage bins like everyone else is.
But there's this black piece of plastic smack dab in the middle of the back that I would take as some sort of vent, I'm not sure what exactly it's purpose is, But I've seen the same vent on every truck. The only thing I can see it being for is to release the vacuum between the cab and bed when moving for sound or mph reasons. Would it be bad to seal it up? Its just in my way of fitting a long gun in that spot. I'll post a pic of what I mean

The red circle is the vent I'm talking about and the shitty green hooks I drew up real quick for an example of what I'm going for are the would be gun rack/mounts.

I keeps the cabin from being too pressurized, example.. windows down on the highway, slamming the last door with the windows up.

    All vehicles have them.

Let's think..... Air comes in at the front for cabin air circulation.... It needs to come out somewhere!

Okay, mine has never worked, or doesn't work well enough if it is meant to relieve cabin air pressure. With one window down, I can always feel extreme pressure in my ears (09 and now in my 14). Is that really what it is for?

Possible rear climate vent? Would go check on mine but it's raining here in Dallas.

Well played Toyota, well played. Well, my money is on climate control vent. Google, who never plays tricks on me, says they come standard after '12.

Didn't see that. Interesting. No proof like that of real life.

I was referring to the link. Those guys were doing real life testing which proved the purpose of the vent. Some of us were guessing. There is no proof like that of real life; in other words, I can do a Web search, could quote the manual, etc. but it would never be as convincing as the guy who says, "I just walked out and tested it, here's what it's for..."

Oh, I understand what you mean now. At first I thought you were saying that the link was not real life proof. :p

What we have here, is a failure to communicate. :)

I would say it's due to the limited emotion/tone from reading typed text but it has happened to me so many times it must be my own fault.

    Nice reference btw

you guys are retarded.... yes its "to release pressure in the cab" .... created by the air circulation (your damn vents)

Otherwise where else is the air going to go when its on through car circulation.

May be retarded, but I know how to end interrogative sentences with a question mark. Also when to use it's vs its. Unsubbed.
