Not sure what you can really store in them. Seems to me everything would fall out without some sort of closure.

I keep rags in there that i use to protect my bike when i tie it down, they haven't come out. Easy to grab while holding the bike in place. I'm a bit of a storage freak so if there's an area that storage could exist, im glad it does!

It reminds me of the useless open slot in my dishwasher. Maybe if you fill it up with detergent before it rains your truck bed will get a spot free wash. :notsure:

I store a lot of little things in there and they never come out. In one side I have a 7-4 pin adapter and the other side I have some bungee strap.

With those cubbies being exposed, you're limited to what to put/store in them due to weather, theft, etc. I have a shell, so I use them all the time for canoe tie down straps, extra rope, first aid kit, dog first aid kit, tire repair kit.....pretty much anything in that size range gets put in there.

This is super ghetto but before I had a bed mat stuff slid around in my bed a lot. I bought a short shower curtain rod and extended it inside of the cubbies to create a kind of bed divider. It worked great for keeping a cooler in place!

Now I have LED pods in them:

One can never have too many light bars.
The engineer who designed these slots was the same engineer that designed the skewwwwp. Rumor is that he's now a high ranking adviser in the White House. Makes sense.

I think a designer planned out the skeeeeewwwwwp since it is not functional. I think an engineer would have made it functional. I've heard some people drill through the bottom to give it a function though.

That would be cool and probably pretty easy to make with some spare abs.
