Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I followed this line from the air filter on and it ended with it not connected on the other end (see pictures). Is this other end supposed to be plugged into something?

Something is not right. I think that goes to the charcoal canister. The built up fumes in the canister get sucked into the intake to be burnt when you start the truck next.

Do you have a check engine light lit? I'm betting you do and the code has to do with the evaporative system.

I bought this truck late 2014 and the only engine code I got fixed was for a catalytic converter that I had done in the same year. I haven't had a code since. I just noticed this when checking something else.

What the heck? Where is that exactly to where this needs to be connected to?

Too ov 3rd pic I see a plastic hole of some sort, it looks to be the charcoal canister. That would be my guess.

Ignore the big yellow arrow. This pic is from a different thread started today, but you can see where that line goes!

Wow, this must have been like this since I bought it...with all the work that has been done by some mechanics I've never been told about this (or they didn't see it either). What does this do? What problems would it cause with it being not connected? Am I to expect better things happening now that it's attached?

I'm really surprised your check engine light isn't on. You wont notice much or anything with it connected. It is an emission related item.

Maybe his check engine light isnt one because he probably has a bad evap vacuum sensor. Op, i would try and find out the types of sensors for your evap system and test them.

I'm not sure where to start to find the type of sensors I have and how to test them

@Erkon I was gonna do the same thing with this pic :). all that tube does is provide filtered air into the charcoal canister since it's un-metered. it wouldn't do anything but let potentially dirty air in there and the intake through the air box. no biggie really.

you could even put a small filter on the cannister and plug up the other end of that hose on the air filter housing.

Good idea, but it may not pass the visual inspection during a smog check in California.
