I wouldn't be concerned. They use road salt in Cincy right? I'd worry about protecting the truck from the salt.

Yes, they salt the roads here.

Ive not personally driven this truck in snow. If it's seen snow, it couldn't have been more than a handful of times on test drives .

Because they use the proper steel for that part.

Your truck is 3 years old, and it sounds like it looks better than mine at 3 months old.

    Where are you located?

Brake rotors rust every night. You’ll hear a faint grinding sound in the morning when you apply your brakes, it’s the rust coming off.

    Good point. Thanks.

It sounds like this isn't a huge issue and some rust is common, but it seems like my truck is rusting more quickly than others.

I called the dealer, and they recommended to bring it in, which I'm going to do. I at least want it documented that the truck began showing appreciable rust after 3-4 weeks of ownership, regardless of whether or not they do anything about it.

I owned a first gen that was bought back due to frame rust, and I had the frame replaced on my second gen. I'm probably hyper-sensitive to rust on my Taco. Toyota has taken care of the issues on both of my prior trucks, but there is no guarantee that will continue.

I appreciate the thoughts and advice from everyone. I'll update this with the response from the dealer.

Just because the snow is gone doesn’t mean that salt brine crap or whatever shit they use isn’t still all over the roads. You can thank your dip shit politicians for that and pressure from the insurance industry who’d rather have your truck rust out ASAP and the groundwater contaminated than pay for accident claims.

I'm in Georgia. But I just looked and mine has a little rust there too. Not like yours, but it's there.

I'm not posting a pic of mine. Some of you would freak the hell out I'm sure (I live in a rust belt).

Not to worry, she gets Rust Check (similar to fluid film) every fall.

If the dealer won’t do anything, I would wire brush that rust, clean it, put some rust reformer on it, paint it, then go get the truck fluid filmed or krowned.

I check under my vehicle every so often, and with two winters under my belt, I have no rust. I fluid film every year, especially in fall, before the salt crap gets thrown around.

This might become an issue in 30 or 40 years but nothing to worry about until then

Why? Why why why? Its rust. Surface rust to be even more specific. Its going to happen on parts like that. End of story. No big deal.
