Secondary oil filter or a relocation / re-plumbing of the oil filter altogether. Think @wmg has something very similar

It's likely a sign you got a truck that was well taken care of by a maintenance cognizant individual. Score.

Your PCV system is now no longer feeding your motor it's own excrement. Oil vapors are returned into the valve cover now instead of through your throttle body.

Meh, more like someone didn’t think the stock oil system was capable of the engine making it past 300k miles, which it is. Easily.

    6.jpg IMG_0272.jpg QUOTE="Wulf, post: 22437148, member: 147523"]It's an Amsoil bypass/remote oil filter setup.

    https://web.archive.org/web/2012050...m/bypassfilters/2003_toyota_tacoma/index.aspx

On most vehicles a bypass filter supplements the factory oil filter and is capable of filtering out even finer contaminants for extended oil change intervals. Lots of diesel guys run them. I would be curious to see if this is a bypass setup with the factory filter still in place or just a relocation.

    https://www.amsoil.com/bypass/how-it-works.aspx[/QUOTE]
    6.jpg

my guess is its a early Amsoil unit, and the original filter is still in place, enclosed are a couple of pictures of mine , the OEM filter is still in operation..you can just see the top of the filter...
