Does anyone know what this is for? There seems to be some kind of mount or clip the the right of my rear view.

Mine has it too. It appears to be a go pro mount. Maybe for a traffic cam, or 4wd madness recording.

It’s a GoPro mount. Mine is branded. I tried for the longest time to find a way to mount a dash cam to it, but it seems there to gain followers on your TRD sporting/overlanding madness insta.

On that note, does anyone know how to “hardwire” the GoPro it self to continuous power? Mine gets about an hour of recording and then the battery is dead.

GoPro mount. Judging by the lack of banding and different shape, I'd suspect your windshield has been replaced with an OEM-like aftermarket replacement.

They have wire splices on Amazon for dash cams that plug into the back of the rear view mirror. You might be able to rig up an usb-a to usb-c adapter and run it across?

Edit: updated hyperlink to actual adapter I bought and have had zero issues for my dash cam

As other have mentioned. Go-Pro mounting clip for social media shit.

I had my buddy 3D print a go-pro attachment piece, but with a modified raised lip so I can 3M stick my dash camera there.

thanks I have that dongle for my garmin mini dash cam. Good point on the USB adapter work around!

I was more so asking if GoPro has fixed the design flaw in their cameras that prevents continuous AC power or if someone has a work around

I hardwired mine via the overhead panel (map lights, glasses holder, etc.) because I do not have a "powered" mirror. The headliner pulls back very easy right at the front to snake a wire to the ovrhd panel. Then I ran the wire down the inside of the A-pillar. (I also installed extra switches up top so the power wire was for more than just the camera. It now has running power and parking power.)

Edit: Shit. My cam is not a Go-Pro. I missed that specification in your question.

All good! Great explanation regardless and good to know. I googled the pass through power and it depends on the GoPro model. Thanks all

You can buy a USB-C male plug and power pigtail, put a 3A or 5A fuse inline then wire it to your switched USB port in the taco, directly to the battery. If you want to get deep into the standard, check out this article. It has a complete pin out. For your purposes though, you just care about power.

Drive a couple of weeks with the GoPro connected to a dangling USB cable and see if it's actually stable. Often it'll overheat and/or crash if left recording for too long.

Good point, the GoPro feels hot enough to explode when we go to the desert even when it’s not 100 degrees out
