what is your best fishing spot where you live?

I love the large mouth... trout... just cuz that’s what Iv always fished for in the bodies of water we have here....

where are the Florida people? those people can pluck Peacock bass out of roadside drainage ditches!! and they have the EVERGLADES!!

 

Real big... in the spring you can wade out into Lake Huron so far that you can no longer see the shore, and pick off Smallmouth like they fish in a barrel, then in summer, Lake St Clair is monster smallmouth and Muskelunge time. Also tons of rivers with 20 inch big shouldered smallies

 

Clearlake bass are strong. You need a net for sure. You’re not lipping one, boat-side. They do not quit.

 

If you drop your boat in the holt reservoir and go south, the further south you go the better the fishing is. The state record catfish (~120ish pound blue catfish, can’t remember the exact weight) was caught just a few miles south of Tuscaloosa near blue creek. If you know what youre doing you can pull in some monster catfish down there, there’s also decent sized striped bass on holt lake.

Lake Lurleen is a hard pass. Those fish have seen every lure under the sun because it’s the “family fishing” destination for dads to take their 12 year old sons on the weekends. I’ve tried there but only ever caught a few sorry bass and some bluegill.

The river is still very high right now from all the recent rain so if you go to the Oliver Dam by Stillman and fish the edges of the riprap banks that ought to produce some decent bass. 2-4 pound catfish are plentiful down under the dam but the problem is you can’t really catch them off a sinker rig because it won’t sit still in the current. I’ve tried using even a 14 Oz sinker on 30 pound fluorocarbon but even that still gets tossed around by the insane pull from the dam, best bet is to just use live bait hooked through the nose, I use bass minnows and like to nick them just a tiny bit near the pectoral fin to spread the scent in the water, on a good morning I’ll pull up 5-7 decent sized ones I can use to cook.

Right before you get to academy outdoors there’s a gas station off the right on the highway that sells live bait, best place in town I’ve found.

I consider myself lucky to live on the seacoast of NH... within a 4 hour or so drive, I have access to some great trout rivers (CT river in NH, the trophy rivers of CT and lot's of great water in Maine, small streams of the white mountains). And within 20 minutes I can be on my Whaler fishing to blitzing striped bass on the Piscataqua River and Great Bay.

 

We don't talk about that............

 

Lake O.H. Ivie, TX, there was a new lake record largemouth bass caught there this year-17lbs

 

Cuts down on the mowing, thats for sure.
