So here’s my predicament, I would like to daily my truck but I don’t want to hike up the mileage. It’s a leased truck but I plan on buying at the end of lease however, things happen life changes and it’s possible that I’ll need a bigger truck in 2-3 years. Hence not wanting to hike the mileage up in case I want to trade in. So I’m tossing around the idea of getting a 2nd vehicle. I don’t really want an econo-box boring civic or Camry I would like it to be something a little out of the ordinary, reliable, and dumb cheap. My first thought was an XJ or WJ because I love super simple vehicles and with the right motor they’re decent on gas but if anyone has other suggestions let me hear em. American, Japanese, European, suv, hatch, sedan, I don’t have preferences so any and all will be helpful

My truck sits most days, I take my one of my Kawasaki’s to work and back every day.

I dailied my lease and also took it on numerous road trips. After 2 out of 3 years I was already close to hitting my mileage allowance so I decided to purchase and keep it for a while. There's no penalty if you buy it out. I say if you love it, drive it.

I paid next to nothing for my ninjas, and if you ride the half the time, that’s half the miles. I rode all this week in Kansas, so I get the not always the best weather argument, but you either adjust or find you hate the cold more than the extra miles.

it was 22 when I left this morning. Had to wipe frost of the seat.

Ive dailied motorcycles, they can be nice. But certain bikes are maintenance hogs, tires don't last as long, and there's a ton of idiots on the road. If it were me, I'd pick up a 10 year old corolla. MT,of course.

If you can pay cash for a beater then I’d say do it. But to lease a vehicle to not drive then get another payment so you don’t drive the first one is foolish. Imo.

Oh I guess I didn’t put it in the op but I’m looking at Craigslist and stuff mostly under 5 grand. There’s no way I would take on another payment .

This is my DD combo: one gets 42 MPG, the other averaging 22-23 MPG to date. Lexus stopped manufacturing the CT-200H in 2017 so there's a bunch of these on sale. This is essentially a 3rd gen Prius which is the good news; the bad news is it's a 3rd gen Prius with added weight and 0 to 60 is a whopping 12 sec. There is a sport mode which makes it a bit more responsive but quite noisy in the cabin. Purchased this 2015 model as a CPO with 25K miles two years ago. IMG_4356.jpg

I daily a beat up civic and I love it. Its cheap to fill up gas, doesnt cost much to insure, keeps the mileage down on the Toyota and its reliable. Best thing about it is peace of mind about parking it. I have to park in large lot that gets crowded and alot of other people that park there dont care about other peoples rides. I park the Civic anywhere I want and I dont have to worry about door dings.

If I had to pick a car, I would go with the first gen Yaris hatch. They are cheap, have a manual, and are fun to drive. Also parts and maintenance is easy.

However...buying a truck and then not driving it is just dumb. As long as you aren't going over your lease mileage and incurring fees just drive it. Rarely does buying another vehicle to drive actually end up saving money.

I’ve had the truck only 6 months and already have 10,500 miles on it. My mileage limit is 42,000 so I’ll be way over by the time my lease is up. At $0.25 a mile fee for being over I would be absolutely screwed, 10.5k miles in 6 months would put me at 73.5k miles at the end of my lease I would owe 31.5k in miles that’s $7,875 in overage fees. Unless I bought the truck out at the end. I could buy a beater for 3-5k, have less mileage on my truck, keep the resale value higher on it, and dodge the high mileage fees all together. That’s why I want suggestions on beaters. What’s going to get me the most fun, reliability, and better mpg for the lowest $ amount

They flip flop and the car is awd.

Personally I don’t understand leasing a vehicle and buying something else to not drive it. Then again, I don’t think leasing a vehicle makes sense to begin with...

Yup, kind of a dumb decision on my part, I’m 27 and went to the dealership alone thinking I know what I was doing and probably got taken advantage of a bit. You live and you learn. After this lease is up I’ll be done with leasing and will most likely be purchasing older vehicles. I love my Tacoma and it’s cool that I bought a brand new truck but I loved all my old junky cars I had.

It happens, but if you like the truck just drive it and buy it at the end of the term. I’m 31 and have made a few mistakes myself but luckily they were pretty low-cost learning experiences.

If I purchase the truck at the end of my lease I’m getting it at exactly msrp so I’m not too worried about it.I’m also not the type of person that gets but hurt about paying the price of a vehicle. You pay sticker price for everything else in the world, why are cars the one thing we all haggle over. Mostly got ripped off on the leases monthly payment. My plan is probably to pay off the truck and then sell privately. If I actually want to sell it. I still want to keep the mileage low though.
