    How so?

I just did a quick search and found this video demonstrating this functionality in a VW Golf, and it is identical to what I've described and all my vehicles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOcghySzs4c

Sure, it activates the "electronic parking brake" and shows you a pretty red LED, but the actual functionality/drive use is identical.

I roll back and I have a TRD Off-ROad 4WD Automatic with MTS and Crawl Control; maybe it is related, but the documentation/brochure makes no claim of difference for that model.

Find a nearby dealer with a TRD Sport and test it out on that one. If it acts as I've described, test out another one or two OR models. If they behave as yours does, but not like the Sport, then the trims have different features in this regard.

    OP has an Auto OR.

With this post, we've confirmed that both auto and M/T Sport models have the normal hill-assist.

We also have a single (OP) confirmation that the auto OR behaves differently.

I'll put a beer on different functionality between trims.

sheesh i am starting to think i should have created way more options for the poll; to include the trim level also (SR5/TRDS/TRDOR/Limited/TRDPRO)... too late now

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Does anyone have a TRD OR with hill assist?

I believe they probably left it off the off-roads because it isn't compatible with ATRAC/MTS...

Semantics, it's still marketed as hill assist because the feature only activates on a hill in my car.

In our case (Tacoma) the mechanism is identical for manual and auto. I suggest you paint with not so wide of a brush stroke with your limited anecdotes.

Semantics? Not in a million years. Tacoma has Option X that is advertised as Option X. Your Jetta has Options X and Y that are both advertised under the umbrella of Option X. You're praising Option Y, and have made zero claims as to any differences in the behaviour of Option X.

And what limited anecdotes would those be? Three different vehicles that all behaved identically? Plus an official VW video further supporting exactly what I've described? Yeah, "limited" alright.

Three anecdotes means "all", got it. I provided an example that debunked your statement, check and mate. Have a nice day.

So my three experiences are somehow inferior to your single experience with a different feature? Might want to revisit the rules of that imaginary chess game you're playing. And get a clue.

    Let's assume for a second that the Hill Assist Control (HAC) works differently on the TRD Off-Road;

The documentation/brochure specifically mentions this feature not working on Manual Transmission (HAC not available on TRD Off-Road 4WD M/T.), but there is no mention of the feature being different or removed from Automatic Transmissions (A/T) - so that would be a mis-advertised feature right?

"the behaviour is standard and consistent across all."

This statement no longer holds water. In the future I hope that you will be more careful with your sweeping generalizations that are limited to your own experiences.

Hard to follow around all the bickering :)

It seems to be false advertising because it specifically states A/T only. Not sure why they would say that when the M/T has it.

If you're going to cherry pick something to support your misguided opinion, show us the entire context so we can laugh at your lack of reading comprehension: "All three are different brands and different types of vehicles ('07 BMW 335i 6MT coupe, '06 MB ML350 7AT SUV, '16 Taco) - the behaviour is standard and consistent across all." The latter bolded statement clearly refers to the former.

But even if I were to claim that every single vehicle in the world that ever was (or will be) will have identical hill-assist functionality, you haven't shown a single example of a vehicle that has hill assist and behaves differently. I can't believe you don't understand that holding/limiting RPMs in addition to activating brakes is different from just activating brakes.

I immediately roll back if I'm on a steep incline and the dash lights up while the truck makes awful sounds. Dealer said it was normal(smh) offroad 4x4 auto
