if you try it a few times- don't hit the brake or gas until after it stops rolling, and it will, you will see.

all the other cars i have had with HSA always hold when you release the brakes. never roll back, then hold like the taco. but after some getting used to, it works.

I had a 2017 focus ST. Manual. Hill assist worked like a charm. Very cool.

Not sure if it was held in place for a specific amount of time or not. Never tested it.

My 2018 AT OR is doing this. Rolls back when I take the break off, give it gas, super weird noise and then it goes. It seems to work much better if I go into 'manual' shift mode. I'm taking it in for service to see what they say. It's definitely unnerving.

To revive an old thread. My 2016 manual 4x4 hill assist works fine when I stop on a hill.

But is mine the only one that locks the tires up when it's wet and moving in slow traffic? Mine ALWAYS does it and was curious and searching to see if it can be deleted or adjusted?

    It's more annoying than anything.

You don’t have a manual shift mode - unless you gave an actual manual transmission.

    You have a gear lockout.

Nothing is wrong with your truck. It’s doing what it’s supposed to do.

Mine never locks up the tires in traffic when wet. It works on hills, as designed.

Something sounds wrong if it locks up like that. Video maybe?

My 2023 TRD OR AT rolls back and make noises after releasing the brake pedal. I've had the truck 9 months now and it has happened a few times. I'd prefer to turn it off if possible.... it's not a big deal though. I just don't like the truck making the weird clicking noises if I roll backward for a second or two.

Anti-lock brakes click-clack-rumble. Traction-control results in ricketing. Crawl mode sounds/feels like 10 pounds of loose nuts and bolts in the transmission. I have experienced hill-start roll-back on primitive roads in loose conditions.

Uncivilized conditions result in less-than-civilized experiences sometimes.

2022 TRD Sport manual, hill assist works fantastic! Been driving manuals my whole life and this is the first vehicle I've ever owned to have hill assist. It's not a necessary feature but I will admit it's pretty cool!

I love mine. It’s absolutely non intrusive and saves the clutch.

I’m slightly surprised Toyota didn’t add a button to disable the hill assist, especially since my truck (OR 6mt) has no hill assist at all. However, I think Toyota designed the AT OR hill assist to satisfy off-road enthusiasts. It would be annoying to not be able to roll off an obstacle in reverse without shifting out of drive.

I’m also surprised that you allow your truck to roll backwards in drive for 1-2 seconds.

Sounds like all the 2024 Manuals will have it, but will have a switch to disable.

Doesn't work like any other vehicle I've had...I mean it works, after truck rolls.

It doesn't bother me to roll backwards some. At 51yo, I've been driving for 35 years and I've rolled backwards many times in manual and auto vehicles.
