need to learn more about this stuff
Los Angeles. right next to LAX. so to the beach in a couple minutes. Could surf in the morning and head to big bear for the snow. summertime, some great camping in nearby mountains, but can head to sierra nevadas for some amazing stuff. drive the PCH through Big SUR = insane. can head east and there is TONS of desert if you like that. really a great place. but thats for me because i love the beach. have family in Utah, and love that place too. some great country out there and rad hiking, camping, fishing, etc. but i sure do love California.

Lived on the beach in LA for 10 years. Awful. Glad to be out of that hell hole. Loony laws. Everything is crowded and congested. Taxes are insane. Cost of living is atrocious. Weather is cold and cloudy half the time. Want to drive anywhere that requires the freeway you sit in traffic for hours. Felt trapped. Fuck that place.

I went zero down, 3% through TFS which was higher than my credit union offered of 2.44%

Instead of putting down for a lower payment I paid off my boat which was at a higher rate than the truck is.

Its a reasonable point but I think it depends...
At 22 I wouldn't go and sign a financing for a new vehicle.

Not sure how insurance is in the US but here under 25 is brutal. Also not many often have all that to pay cash for something.
I couldn't pay fully for a $50k truck, So paid a little over half and finance the rest. Didn't want used again and need a truck for work and camping.

Besides I can afford my payments on unemployment along with other bills etc. And I wouldn't be sitting on the out of work list long. I've worked my way up and proven myself's worth. if I was laid off tomorrow I'd be back to work by monday. I have former foremen always asking me to leave the company I'm with now to go work with them elsewhere.
For anyone young though its hard to buy a new vehicle without financing, wouldn't recommend a tacoma for a 22 year old though...at least not a brand new one, as they're pretty expensive and that's a big commitment. Could seriously hurt your credit if you fuck up.

As others have stated, I commend you for reaching out for advise at your age. You have a bright future ahead of you. Do what you feel is right man. It's your life and your money. When you're ready to tie the knot, start another thread, we will be here for you  I unfortunately have a shit ton of experience with divorce. I can certainly tell you what not to do.

Not sure if the credit score works differently in the US but any new credit card is a hard inquiry and that can hurt your credit a lot here.
Better off just having 1 or 2 and using them but never having a late payment or carry balance.

Also getting a mortgage here can be hard by having too many credit cards. Girlfriends mom is an accountant and financial advisor, from what she's told me the two cards is all I need.

don't be like the moron I work with that is 22, makes 39k a year and just bought a house for 790k with a 40k down payment from a loan shark where is girlfriend works seasonal in the summer for $13/h.
After he told me I asked him what will he do when he's on EI for being in trade school and only getting $650/month at his level. Said "i didn't think of that"

Great to be ambitious but yes ALWAYS live within your means.
