I saw her in 2005 returning some stuff I found at my parents' house that wasn't replaceable. She didn't even recognize me at first. In that 5 yrs I had got sober, got a good job, bought an almost new car, bought a house, got married..all the stuff she said she wanted to do and I'd never do. She still lives at home and hates it, still has the same job and hates it, blah blah blah.

I divorced my wife and got the kids. She's a drunk and hasn't seen them in years now.
Since the youngest started school this year, no more daycare. I paid off the boat I haven't been able to use since I had no truck.
$650/month payment is easy when all the bills I have is a $460 mortgage and basic food, utilities.

Not all of us are as rich as you to be able to pay off a 40k truck in one or two punches.

Misery loves company.. You took the steps needed to change and be a different person. It seems she did not.. If a person can't change on their own and battle their demons, how can she ever give herself to someone else.. She will bring all her baggage to the next relationship..

Or she'll find someone who is okay with all of that..and that's fine too. She's dated but hasn't settled down and is almost 40. Always said she wanted kids too..

Yeah, to each their own.. I always felt like I was in my own prison in my last relationship. Your x might never get what she wants until she looks in the mirror and is willing to change.

Some of us just aren't dumb enough to pay 40k for a truck. ;)

They can be had for 8-12-20k as well believe it or not!

I saved 7k buying mine used with 4800 miles on it. Previous owner decided he wanted a 4 runner instead. Got my 2016 Sport for 30k and let them have my 06 with a 112k miles on it for 12k so I paid the difference in cash . Buying used has it's benefits!

Yeah. Of course you can pay cash for everything you buy when you make $250-500k a year. I earn $60k a year and started off making $55k two years ago. Took me two years to save up 6 months of my salary and the down payment on this rig.

I had enough in savings to pay for my truck in full but I wouldn't have my 6 month emergency fund in place if I plucked all that cash at one time just to say I own my truck outright. I'm waiting to save up for an extra two years and after two years of making payments on the truck I will pay it off. Just because I financed it for 60 months doesn't mean I couldn't afford it or that it's going to take me that long to pay it off.

Being debt free is a wonderful feeling but not everyone wants to pull all their money out of savings or IRA to make cash purchases. Some prefer to keep their cash in IRAs and savings.

Nice! Great deal. Paid $34,800 for my 2017. $37223 with tax, title, and fees. You have an extra $5-7k in your pocket.

Best fucking advice in this thread.

I wish i had that option still. Use your family support while you still have it. So you cant bring some strange home every night, deal with it and get a hotel room if you have to. In 2 to 3 years you can buy the same exact truck, saving at least $10k in depreciation that everyone else here is paying for by buying new. Use saved cash to invest towards a home.

I bought new 2016 trdorac for 33k trade in 11.5 cash down 8k, financed 15.6 payments 287 for 60 months. If I was your dad I'd say no way. I was 52 when I bought my first new car,got layed off 2 years later and had to use my savings to pay it off. Drive cheap, work hard, save money,be patient.

I base all of my payments as if i were living on minimun wage. If i lose my job and have to work minimun wage, can i still afford my payment, can i still afford the bills and my payments. My dad has always taught me that. Becaue you can almost always find a job at wendys or mcdonalds or burger king or somewhere that pays minimum wage. So why not try and base everything off of that. I know its nearly immpossible to pay all the bills on minimum wage, but it does make you re-evaluate all the money you are spending and helps me to save some money. It has worked so far, i have managed to own some pretty decent vehicles, and now been able to save towards building a home.

I never come from money growing up, was just taught to manage money, if you want a low payment, bank a big down payment, or pay in full. Dont be afraid to haggle as well, remember, its not a privelage for a car salesman to sell you a car, its a privelage to buy it, dont let them intimidate you into paying a certain price, never be afraid to walk away from a dealer that wont work with you. I have done it many times, but it also let me get my '14 DCSB 4x4 auto v6 base for 21,000 instead of 29,000.

I've always bought more car than I probably should have, including my first Tacoma 18 years ago when I was in the USAF.

Honestly I think it depends more on how much you will love the truck and the use you'll get out of it; the memories you'll make. I know thats not usually deemed "sound financial advice" but I think it's an important part of the thought process.

No one needs a new Tacoma. So let's clear the air with that simple fact. You said you have a company van, and I'm sure you could buy a $500 beater if you wanted.

So, how much do you want the truck? Will you really use it?

How's your job? More importantly, how are YOU at your job? If you're a badass and you know you're valuable to the company and will move up the ladder, that should be part of the equation.

I've never regretted buying expensive, new cars and trucks, and I have owned (and currently own) a lot of them! But I've always known I'd be well off so I never worried about the money. Just make more. You can't take it with you anyway.
