In my eyes all that matters is 1. Purchase price and 2. My interest rate. Everything else is irrelevant. It's no different than your car salesmen asking you what you want your monthly payment to be? Sure if you want 300 with 0 down, they can stretch it over 84 with higher interest. That's definitely not a better deal than someone paying $600 over 48 mos.

Do what you want, the Tacoma holds solid value... if you buy anything new it's okay to finance it. The way I see it is if you pay somebody full price up front for a 16-17 which is fairly new... your not smart, and your not "fit to buy a new truck because you can afford it" you should always finance a new style vehicle because if it's a lemon... guess what... Toyota has your money and your screwed. If you financed it then Toyota has the banks money. Your not out 32-45k up front if it's a lemon. To answer your question I financed 84 months @ 2.99% for 420 monthly

I know this isn't the Dave Ramsey forum, but if one is having to stretch the payments out to over 60 months plus it's telling. IMO I don't think the third gen is going to hold it's value that well unless Toyota starts finding solutions for problems.

Every Tacoma has had some issues in the first years of a new generation... but it didn't hurt there value over the years.

Yep let's not forget the rusted frame recall that happened to the 2001-2004 model years of the first gen and I saw a 2001 Tacoma for sale at my local dealership with a 159k miles and they still listed it for $11k.

The 3rd gens are holding their value fine. A 2016 TRD off road 4x4 base model with no premium tech package that has 17k miles at my local dealership is listed at $32,990 only $1200 less than what I paid for mine and it's actually listed $1500 below book value.
The issues on the 3rd gens will be resolved once the 2018's come out.

Cheers everyone. I'm new. Literally just purchased a new 2017 in Blazing Blue (my son's favorite color). Sr5 v6 with double cab and tow package. I hope it's appropriate to post the msrp on sticker was 31,800 (approx.) and I was able to purchase at 28,800. My apr was lower than available than Toyota financing and payments with 100k extended warranty are in the 430 range at 72 months (2 grand down). It's not the cheapest vehicle ive ever financed but certainly not the worst. I've got some nerf bars ordered to install this coming week and will look into a slight lift kit (extra 2in front and 1.5 rear).

Spent 10k on an 06 ACLB 4 banger with 130k. Payments are around 200 month for 60 months. Was PLANNING on putting the sale of my F250 straight towards the principle of the loan but I've lost course. Now it looks like the 6k I get from the sale will be going straight towards upgrages:)

I don't take a 60 or 72 month loan because I can't make a 48 month loan payments. I do it in case of some sort of financial emergency I can still make payments. My last truck was financed for 60 months, paid off in just over 3 years. Throw an extra $200 or more a month at it, maybe more when able and it is crazy how fast you can pay one off.

As long as your interest rates are drastically higher is all that matters. I do that with my mortgage payments for our home. Only 0.25 higher between 15 and 30 year so I throw the difference at it.

I don't remember all the numbers but the one that matters to me is how much it got financed for. My interest payments average out to be under $30 per month over the course of 60 months. At that low a rate I would be putting excess cash into paying off my 20 year mortgage before I would throw extra money at the truck payment.

The OP didn't mention how much he paid for it but I doubt he paid more than $23k for it.
I don't blame him for not wanting to disclose how much he paid for the truck as everyone on this thread will start judging him and still telling him he bought too much vehicle eventhough he bought a base model Tacoma.

The OP can always use the truck to make extra money with side work or use the truck as a side lawn care business in the summer time to make extra money. The truck is like an investment to him.

Hey buying a new base model Tacoma is a lot safer purchase than buying a new BMW that is going to instantly lose $5-6k in value the second you drive it off the lot and you can't use the Bimmet to make money doing side work or lawn care work.

Absolutely nothing wrong with advice, even if it's misguided. Better to be an informed 30 year old than a poor 65 year old.

Just realized it wasn't OP who posted the $37k Tacoma.

    Whew.
