I was going to reply but no need. ^^^ very well put. I deal with manufacturers in China quite a bit. The only reason I go to them is beacuse they dont make it here. Im finding lead times are getting longer myself.

Americans (in general) are getting lazy and there not going to work long, hard hours to supply the worlds demand. Look at kids today, all they do is expect handouts (99% bullshit) Im young, got a job then started my own business, I worked 60 hours a week on designing my products and its paid off.
If somebody made the product I need in the US, i would goto them no quastion even if they were 50% more. Im actually having a lot of problems with quality overtime. I maunfacturer custome fitness products and need accesories to go with them. Were supplying high grade american made products for professional athletes, i need high strength products, im finding they ware out quick.

Im looking into ordering the raw mateials in bulk and adding it to our manufacturing process, i can control quality and demand. Its so easy to get anything made offshore, dont even need to go there, why make it here.

A quality product may cost more upfront, but you won't be replacing it again next year with another cheap POS. To me buying the good stuff the first time is more cost effective.

I buy almost all of my food at Walmart and it's very difficult to find things that aren't "made" in the USA. Fruit is obvious and Walmart isn't well known for quality fresh foods. One great thing about Walmart is they don't have discount/reward cards. I just bring cash or credit. No wallet or keychain bloat and if you pay by cash, they don't know who bought what. Less marketing BS in your mailbox.

A lot of the made in the USA companies still buy materials or parts from other countries, so it's a difficult effort to get something that's made in America from American materials. My old stereo advertised "engineered in USA".

    For example:
    http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/empire.html
Designed & assembled in our USA factory
Supposedly a nice subwoofer by the way.

    not necessarily.

You would be surprised how much shit in walmart is American made. Go walk around the automotive and outdoors (fishing section mostly) and find how much stuff is made in the USA.

They also carry name brand tires, most of which are made in the USA.

I also found a whole entertainment/bedroom set at walmart that was Made in the USA.

Most of the of the meats they carry are also products of the USA.

H&K handguns are also made in USA (funny because they are German). IIRC their AR-style rifles are made in USA too.

Some Beretta's are made in USA.

    Ruger's are made in USA.

FN Herstal manufactures military rifles in the USA (Belgian Co.), they used to make the M16 for our military before Colt won the contract back

Hopefully this "global economy" we are a part of will teach American workers to stop being so god damn greedy. Someone installing the passenger side front door on a Ford Taurus does NOT deserve $100K a year. Have some humility and be realistic.

Sure, a lot of this stuff will come back and be made in the USA again. But human greed will continue the cycle.

this is where Unions come back into the equation. Everytime a UAW worker, or group of workers got up in arms about pay, or other issues the Union would twist the auto co. (one of the big 3) arm till they gave in. Eventually they went overseas so they didn't have to deal with the union BS.

I was watching a special on 60 minutes (or some news show) a few years back showing how rampant the Unions were in the automotive industry. There was one part that talked about a GM plant was put on standstill during a strike because of wage issues. One worker wanted more $$ because he worked at the plant for 20+ years, even though he had full benefits and made $33/hour. And all he did was install the tail-lights on the rear of the vehicle.

Toyota Plants=Non-union...and guess what?? They employ Americans for a fair wage, with benefits...and no union...hmmm...

Unions are a great concept...but when they start to do more hurt than harm...things need to change.

The main reason Unions were established in the country was due to the terrible working conditions and wages during the Industrial revolution. Now that workers' conditions have standards, and wages are fair. Unions are sorta obsolete...they seem to just become corrupt and push around their weight for the ones at the top and dont do anything for their members.

Everyone I know has been hurt more by their union than helped....from Firefighters, paramedics, carpenters, to concrete workers.

My girlfriends dad is a Union Carpenter.

He ALWAYS talks about how crucial unions are, and how he refuses to work a non-union job (lol...and he is unemployed 6 months out of the year).

Yet he has been FUCKED by his union multiple times...he is always complaining about how corrupt they are.

    Like he is brainwashed...

He thinks a carpenter should make $20/hour plus just to swing a hammer (no offense to carpenters on here). He refuses to work a job unless its for $20/hour+. Yet he will draw unemployment at $250/week

yeah, its a shame to see the ones that are made in china.

I like how they have the ones that say "MADE IN USA" with the huge flag...while the ones that dont have that say made in china on the back...like they are ashamed.

    Same thing with Buck Knives.

Thank you for explaining my point in more words. :p Unions are obsolete.

My GF's dad is a union utility worker. He gets a crazy amount of money for overtime and thinks the Union is imperative. While it also fucks him on a weekly basis for one thing or another.
