You my friend need to search in the more correct locations...

The Horse Backstreet Choppers - best damn bike magazine out there. So damn good I bought my Dad a two year subscription for Father's Day.

Chopper Underground - has a really good forum for choppin'

Head over to ebaymotors and do a search for "bobber". You'll be amazed at the number of returns and get a better idea of how they range in price.

Style is up to you. Whatever floats your boat. I am biased to brit-iron, but I agree with the other member here completely, the older Triumph's were labor intensive (at least mine were).

Personally (remember I'm biased), british twins make the best looking bobbers, although I never really cared for them chopped (think large rake as in Easy Rider), V-twins always looked better IMHO.

I wouldn't give more than $7500 for the first bike, less than 1/2 that for second Yamaha, and possibly more for the last Meriden era Triumph pictured.

There are a million hacks out their bobbing their bikes as you will see on ebaymotors. Buying from a reputable builder may cost more, but in the end you'll receive a better product.

There are many reputable builders out there as stated by another member. Search for choppahead for some nice looking brit bobbers also.

If you like the look of the brit engine on a bobber, I have to highly recommend a Hinckley twin 2001-present. All bobbers vibrate like all hell (nature of the hard tail) and will still require frequent maintenance (mainly tightening loose bolts).

    to really start drooling!

    Tom

Buy the new Harley-Davidson 48. Reasonable price, a manufactured motorcycle with Warranty so you're not constantly having to work on it or come out of pocket if you do. They are pretty custom stock, but you can make a few changes and have a really badass bike, and most importantly, with good re-sale value.

x2. That is what I did. Started to restore an 83 Honda Shadow 750 in to a bobber but got over my head. would cost too much because the engine was shot. Trying to find another with a half way decent engine to bob. I love the look. especially on the bigger bikes. I also really like the Cafe racer look.

The 2nd picture is a yamaha XS650, you can still find these cheap and the really nice part is how easy parts are to find. Check out http://www.mikesxs.net/. Do a google search(images) using yamaha XS650.

Here's my 78 XS650 that I picked up for $200(not in running condition). I have not decided exactly what I would like to do with the bike yet, but it is a blast to ride:)

Try xs650chopper.com too. They are stupid cheap and make damn cool lookin bobs.

I ride an 07 triumph thruxton. The new triumphs are a blast and have good power for their size. I've had old and new triumph and new is definitely the way to go if you want reliability. You can find an older Bonny in the 3500 to 5000 range depending on mileage and condition. Or search out a wrecked one for cheap.

I had an XS as my first bike. Hate to see them turned into a faddish "tattoo" of a bike.
    restore em.
