    Hi; I removed the bolt that holds down the rear of the drivers seat bracket to the floor. I'm wondering what kind of bolt it was that I removed???
    It looks like what is called a "dog end" bolt, that is, a smaller section at the very end that would act as a pilot to help keep the bolt straight when starting to screw it in. This bolt has the "dog end" but that part is threaded.
    Anybody know? Does this serve the same function, or is there a "special" nut under the floor that takes both sized threaded portions of the bolt???
    I posted this in the General chat 2nd Gen. area and haven't got an answer so I'll try here.
    Thanks again.

    I don't think there is anything special about a seat bracket bolt. Pics would help....

    Ok, here is a picture, maybe;

    It looks like what they call a "dog end bolt" but has threads on the stepped down portion. Never saw one like this before so wondered if it was "special".
    My question again, is it special? Does it have a doubled size nut under the floor? OR, does it work like the dog end bolt, just a thread starter for alignment???
    Thanks for any constructive or informational comments, :).

    It's nothing special. I'm not sure what they call it, but it's designed so that it can be easily threaded through a hole under the carpet where carpet fibers might get in the way. Any standard bolt will work just fine. You'll have to be mindful of the carpet fibers though!...

    welterbf123 is correct. Confirmed by a source at MIT. That configuration on a bolt is there to ease through bolting of carpeting in an automobile. Also being used by Ford, for the last 30 years or so. Not being a Ford person I didn't know. Thanks to all.

    Toyota uses them often, all over the place. Nothing special, use a normal bolt in stead if you need to.

    Toyota replaced those bolts with standard bolts. I have an 02 and when I went for replacements they had two different sizes, one for the inner thread and one for the outer.
