Awesome, thanks! This is the exact method I was reading online. Water heater is already bypassed for winterizing. Do I need to do anything special for the hot water heater to clean it?

Just bought a ikamper mini 3.0 on a whim and this would be perfect to mount it to. Not sure if I am ready to give up the creature comforts of a full size camper though.

I usually just check the anode rod condition and spray some water in that opening to rise out any sediment. There is a special wand attachment for rinsing the water heater that probably makes it easier.

Sweet! Congratulations. That’s a nice trailer. Glad you are loving it. We are loading up our Explore for a four night 5 day trip this weekend. Can’t wait.

The main advantage for us is being able to use the solar to get deep into the forest or desert, and be able to not have to come out for anything.

I would say you won't know for sure until you try it, and it depends on the weight of the rack and the bicycles.

I have a singe axle camper (I think around 4800 lbs; I don't remember offhand), and I tried putting the Tacoma's spare tire on the camper's rear rack to give me a bit more payload capacity, and that made the camper kind of squirrelly going down the road. I would guess the tire weighs about 50-60 lbs.

Everything handle better with the spare in the truck.

Everything handles better when the weight is centralized- the rear of the trailer is the worst place to add weight.

Can you find a roof rack for your bikes you can install on your popup?

Since this is a thread full of camper people with solutions, I figure I’ll ask here.

I’m considering buying a ‘24 short bed, but I’m looking for a plan. I want to be able to haul at least one motorcycle (possibly two 300-500lbs total) with my teardrop camper (1100lbs trailer weight, ~120lbs on the tongue). I do use the bed now for other camping gear, so it will be tight with bikes.

my problem is that the short bed means I’ll need to roll with the tailgate down. Thoughts on hitch extensions for such a light trailer? Or maybe there’s a hitch carrier for a single bike that also allows light trailering? Or maybe extend the trailer tongue and use a bed extender deal?

Here’s the camper setup as is now:

Can you just roll without the tailgate on?

Or what is hitting on the trailer? The jack? You could switch to a different style. Either removable or one that swivels the jack leg 90 degrees

Nothing hits now because I can keep the tailgate up. There’s a folding jack but with the tailgate down it would hit on the spare tire during turns. I’d need to keep the tailgate down if the bike(s) are in the bed to fit them

Thanks for the great write-up. Pulling the camper out in a few weeks and this is a big help!

We got a 17BH last year, our first camper! It's treated us well so far, kids love the bunks.

You can do some good upgrades and mods if you like working on things.

Finally ordered a replacement toilet valve. This one has been leaking a little bit every time you flush the toilet. Antifreeze couldn’t handle -40 degrees.

You can definitely see the freeze damage on the old valve. Wasn’t hard at all to replace it. Got it swapped out and turned the water pump on. One of the pex fittings started to leak. Loosened it up and reseated it and tightened it back down and that stopped the leak. Then the other fitting started to leak. Repeated previous step and tested. Now the 3rd fitting was leaking :annoyed: just tightened that one down and we are good to go now. I have no confidence in these pex fittings at all now.

New springs and an axle flip gave me the clearance I needed . Black pipes were only 5” off the pavement before . Also added bearing buddies

We are pretty excited for this addition. Put a Jack It Pro up front to carry our bikes on the next big trip.

I was going to get one of those but the reviews warned if the nose of your trailer is rounded the peddles of the back bike will rub on the camper :notsure:
