I had not seen it but will check it out now. You spurred me to go out and hook up. First hook up since the box was installed. I was a lttle nervous about the weight but the truck ony dropped about 3/4-1" Camper still sitting pretty level with the 4" drop I'm going to take it out for a drive tomorrow and see if any bounce but I'm betting the progressive aal's will do their job. Still plenty of room after extending the tongue also.

I'm dropping it off at the dealer this week so while we're at the beach they can warranty the AC unit and decided to bite the bullet and go ahead with the dual batteries and twin solar panels while they have it. You know I like to do my own work but couldn't beat the price.

On a CAT scale you get weight for each axle. Front, rear and trailer. If you weigh the truck with the trailer, then unhook the trailer in the parking lot, reweigh the truck by itself.
The rear axle weight with trailer minus rear axle weight without is tongue weight

The dump is about 3/4 of a mile from the house. I think I'm going to ride down there tomorrow and see if they'll let me do that. I can get the whole thing weighed bring it home, unhook, and go back. I might play with figuring out the tongue weight then

I’ve been following your pictorials. Yep, that’s pretty tiny. I bet you get good gas mileage. Is your truck a 4 cyl or V6?

I don’t think I’d like the outdoor galley, but the whole trailer looks pretty hi tech. You could probably cover the back half with an easy up with sides to keep the bugs out of your food prep.

You must be younger than I am. My old bones wouldn’t appreciate the cramped interior.

Truck is a V6. I started with a 4cyl auto and it didn't work too well towing so switched to this truck. 51 interior isn't really that bad when you slide the bench out it's a full or Queen size bed I can't remember

Speaking from experience towing a trailer that is 4200lbs “dry”, I’d recommend a smaller trailer or bigger truck. Even on flat ground it is not a fun experience for me. Currently looking to downsize in the very near future.

That’s going to be a heavy trailer once it’s loaded to pull with a Tacoma. Good luck and be safe. Best to weigh it at a truck scales when it’s loaded to know exactly how much weight you’re carrying.

You probably have a 1,000 lbs of cargo capacity. Mountain passes will be slow going. Someone mentioned that there was an aftermarket trans temp gauge that could be added. Sounds like that would be wise.

Got the R-Pod home on Friday, started modding within hours!

First was a MicroAir Easy Start for the AC unit. Makes it easy for my 2200W generator to start the compressor on the 13,500BTU AC unit. Runs like a champ.

Next was the Progressive Industries EMS behind the converter. For protection. Gotta have protection!

Third, I had a couple replacement locks and replaced the generic every-camper-has-the-same-fucking-key locks.

Soon, I'll need to get at least one foam mattress topper (the camper has bunks, but I'll only really be using one).

I picked up a brand new in box Coleman RoadTrip LXE LP grill for $100. Craigslist is great for finding great deals! Just need to get a hose to connect to the outlet on the camper.

Later, a tongue box, in which I'll mount the battery box, a solar charge controller, and probably stow the chocks, the stabilizer pads, adapters and the power cable.

IMG_0790.jpg IMG_0907.jpg I've been lurking on this thread and finally pulled the trigger on this Starcraft launch extreme 19BHS. It's 7ft wide and 23ft with the slide retracted. Comes in at 4050lb with propane. Only 700lbs of capacity and take of 280 for water we are living pretty spartan, which suits us fine. Have a brake controller, using a Husky Centerline TS WD hitch with sway control and HD add a leaf that I had previously installed from Wheeler's. Trailer tracks and pulls nice. Need to get a better pair of towing mirrors as the ones I bought at the dealer suck. I'm adding a second A/T cooler this weekend for benefit and tinkering. It seems that every road has an incline here in Montana. I still have much to learn about finding the sweet spot rpm wise while towing, A/T temp got up to 225f on the way back from Helena, but like I said, all roads are uphill here.

Awesome! We love our rPod 180.
You should install a battery disconnect (I just remove the entire battery to discourage theft.)
Otherwise the propane gas detector will run down the battery when in storage.

We just went to Target yesterday and bought a bunch of stuff for the new trailer. We got some small plastic bins to hold drinking glasses and small bowls for the kitchen overhead cabinet. They work well to keep things from moving around when on the road.
We also got some string lights to hang from the awning, and a new bath mat and trash can.

Great! Looks good. I got some towing mirrors for the new rPod but haven’t used them yet. The pod is only 6.5 ft wide and is actually easier to see around than I would have thought.

Good tip on the battery disconnect, I think that I will just take it off, especially in offsite storage situations. My wife spent the weekend decking it out. We were in it with the kids the whole weekend at a soccer tournament where it was raining and cold so we really got to study the insides. We looked at the R-Pods but could get the sleeping for 6 that we were looking for.

    Enjoy!
