Anybody know? Biggest dog I've ever seen. Saw this big one with 3 more just like it on Redcone Pass in CO on 9/26 this year. Other ones didn't have those things on their heads though and one was way smaller. Any help appreciated!

Edit: For clarification, this encounter was 4 moose total together, travelling in a rut season mating group. First to walk through was a cow with a calf which is what set off my "Oh $hi+" alarm. They were followed by the bull who stood where you see him in the pictures for about 10 minutes waiting until the second cow came through and he followed all of them across the stream.

That's a hard nope. This old big boy, his two cows and one calf interupped my coffee routine and my buddy's, um, morning relief. I hollared at my friend and I heard him drop his shovel and come running. Took about 15 minutes for the whole family to go on their way. He was polite and made it pretty clear that he knew we were there and that they were just passing through. I'm no fool and I had just taken down our bear line, so I'm well aware of the dangers from the wildlife.

It looked like he broke his collar clean off somehow. Weird, huh? Some people should take better care of their dogs.

Thanks! I've had to avoid them before but never had 4 walk right up on our camp 40 yards away. However, we were doing an 8 day stay in several different areas during the rut, so there's that too. We're no strangers to american mountain pandas, danger doggos, and hill kitties.

I can say for sure, hat or not, that this was not one of those dangerous hill kitties I've seen before.

Definitely a dog, by a log.

Oh. My. God. You guys are so DUMB. It's not a dog, it's a donkey. Technically the elusive Colorado Swamp Donkey.

    That
That makes total sense! I was wondering why it didn't want any of the beef liver dog treats I had with me. A swamp donkey, I am dumb.

My little BMW 1600 could have driven underneath one of those if it had gotten onto a highway, so I was never afraid of hitting one with it! o_O
