I like those jack stands. Do you think they will work for a non lifted SR? I believe they will since I would lift the truck at front or back to give at least 16 inches to axle or frame jack points with a floor jack on front button or rear diff housing.

Picked up this 2 1/2 Ton rapid pump racing jack at HF today, tried it out and lifted the front end up with ease. Aluminum & steel, listed at around 54 lbs I believe, feels more like around 60 lbs but I’m getting old lol. Still it’s far lighter than an all steel jack and easy to roll around. Solid construction. Price was $209.99 but I had a 25% off coupon so got it for $157.49. 90 day warranty isn’t much so paid $38.99 for a 2 year free replacement warranty. Also got a low profile creeper for around $27+ with coupon. Now looking at jack stands and wheel chocks to complete my setup.

Getting under a car is scary, even with jack stands. Getting under a truck is safer, but still...

Given the choice, if I was going under I'd feel safer if one end of the vehicle was on high-quality ramps instead of floor jacks or jack stands. Even when I had my vehicles on jack stands I still had the floor jacks partially holding the vehicle up. Looking back at all the times in the last fifty years I was under a vehicle suspended by questionable support it is a wonder I am still alive. Some lessons only time teaches.

The problem with ramps is you cant take a wheel off.

How much clearance you have? I'll measure my stands at the lowest height this afternoon and let you know.

Matco Beast. Not a cheap jack, but it's a quality jack that'll last a lifetime.

I did a lot of work on my own cars in my younger years and used metal ramps … never thought they were hefty enough even then in my riskier years and todays typical ramps don’t look any stronger to me. And Plastic ramps? No thanks lol.
There’s a youtube video of a guy crushing jack stands with a hydraulic press, very impressive how much pressure they withstood and I have no doubt a standard metal or plastic ramp would have buckled way sooner.
Im looking at quality double pin jack stands.
Your method of still having the jack up along with the stands is one I plan to use as well.

This has been a great thread and I love the pics of some of the vintage jacks still in use. Concerning use of ramps; they really do come in handy when you just need to get under the truck to change the oil or do some other work not requiring a tire to be removed. Ramps are more than adequate and safe when used as designed. I have a set of those Rino ramps and use them all the time.

PS: hydraulic jacks have been around for a very long time and the basic design of how they work has not really changed much. Even the cheap ones are more than capable and safe to use. Just remember to always use jack stands if you are going to get under the truck to work.

I just bought this exact jack in black. Very nice with 24" of lift. If you search in the coupons, there's a coupon that brings it down to $208. Extended reach, foot pump, low profile. I picked up a set of the new Daytona 6 ton locking stands, too.

How are the stands? When I needed to buy them they only had 3 tons. Bought a set from O’Reillys and they worked great.

Looks similar in its color, but mine is different, the wheels aren't the same, plus mine looks larger. I bought it at a tool sale for $50 back around 1990. I swear its at least 90 lbs.

They're really well made and safe with the locking clip. IMG_20220408_090706667.jpg IMG_20220408_090554987.jpg IMG_20220408_090612700.jpg

I don’t, sorry. Before they opened a HF in a nearby town I bought stuff online from them and subscribed to their mailing list. It had been a while since I purchased from them so they sent me that 25% off coupon to entice me and it worked lol. If you’re not already subscribed to their mailing list, try that.

As long as some have already strayed slightly from the topic to talk about jack stands, does anyone have experience with these Esco stands?
These are what I'm thinking about getting to replace my HF stands before I die from using them.
