Help! What exact type of Tacoma do I have? I just purchased a 2017 Tacoma and I’m a first time truck (and Toyota) owner. The vin comes back to Toyota Tacoma SR5 trim, but when I googled that configuration it looks different from what I have. (I’m just curious, I love the truck either way). It looks like it has features from more than one type of Tacoma.. Other specs are double cab, 4x4, 3.5 L V6, color: blazing blue pearl. I’m adding photos, thank you for the help!64976A25-6329-4086-A09A-04AEF13B4E61.jpg 239DFD01-8165-49EE-A04A-DD6156D73C15.jpg FD3D366B-02F1-40B9-B5B1-D7764547466F.jpg 2CB58CD4-2D14-4DBB-A7F5-5FFFF78B88BE.jpg 39584058-F4A0-41BF-9D3C-CBA86920E629.jpg

Thank you. That was my initial guess, but when looking it up it looks different, particularly the grill. Google is the worst though ;)

TRD Sport and TRD Off Road are both considered SR5 according to the VIN decoder. Based on the hood, I'd say you have a TRD Sport unless someone good swapped it.

The Pro grille is the most overdone things on these trucks so it is hard to use that as a point of emphasis for determining trim

What’s up with the PNW decal? Is it just that it was originally purchased/driven in the PNW? lol

Welcome to the forum, definitely a Sport (with a lift, Pro grille, aftermarket wheels and tires).

No problem. Here's a couple of other things to look for. If it doesn't have push button start (and it isn't a manual) then it is an SR5 that has been modified. If you have a rear locker then it is a TRD Off Road with a hood swap. This can also be indicated by having crawl control (automatic transmission only).

SR and TRD Pro have their own VIN designations so you've already eliminated those.

Thank you! I’m a wildlife biologist that works out in the field often (Snake River canyon) and this is my first timing owning a vehicle that is perfect for my work. I was usually access-limited based on how far I could drive and how far I needed to hike in with equipment. I’m looking forward to adventures both on and off the clock!

You also have color coded rear bumper caps and fender flares, both are consistent with a Sport trim.

A rear locker is for your rear differential. Crawl control is controlled by a knob on the top console. If you have a sunglasses holder up there, you don't have crawl control.

Nope! I have a sunglasses holder. Sounds like Sport with a Pro grill is the consensus :)

Yeah, for sure! As I mentioned, I’m a wildlife biologist (specifically a raptor biologist) and my field work often takes place in remote areas with limited accessibility. I needed a trustworthy and capable truck that can get me in and out of field sites safely with ease and can haul any equipment I may need. With care they last forever, they are a great size (for me) not too small/not too big, they are great in all types of terrain and conditions, they’re well-built quality trucks, they’re safe, and of course they’re pretty ;)
I also love camping, love anything and everything outdoors, and have two chocolate labs that are the best adventure buddies I could ask for. They go pretty much everywhere with me.

Thank you. And I asked one of the mods to add it. A few users on here have them in various colors. Most are blue or red but some are green and other colors as well.
