Ive been thinking about buying a lift kit for my first gen. Anyone have advice on a specific kit to go with. I want 3" in the front and back. I don't need anything crazy but I also don't want a junk kit. I don't plan to do any hardcore off-roading or anything. Any advice would be appreciated; cost, difficulty of installation, etc..

Running OME springs on Bilstein 5100’s on my 02’ 4Runner. I’m pleased with them for the money.

Inexpensive option: bilstein 5100’s set at 2.5” and an add a leaf

More expensive option: OME coils and a dakar leaf pack with nitrochargers all around

Another option you have is a combo lift. I did a small suspension lift combined with a small body lift. Just don't go over 3" on either one without it being a drop bracket for the front.

Would you get all 4 5100 or just two in the front set at 2.5? Also..how many AALs?

As long as you lift the rear at least 1” you can get 5100’s for all 4 corners (they require at least 1” lift) or you could get 5125’s (basically the same as 5100’s but they come in different lengths)

As far as AAL’s, I don’t have any personal experience with them, but you can buy either single leaf add a leafs or multiple leaf progressive add a leafs. Check out Headstrong’s progressive AAL to get you started for ideas.

If your truck has higher miles though and your leafs are worn out, a new leaf pack would be the better option, as AAL’s on sagging leaf springs make for more of a bandaid fix. Worn-out leafs will wear out your brand new AAL quickly.

Went with a rough country spacer lift for my son's truck. Not bad if you don't want to spend too much and only do light stuff off-road.IMG_20171223_144011008.jpg

Thanks! I was going to go with just a leveling kit but I think for my trucks quality I should just get the 5100's. I will probably add a leaf like you said and be good.

I think I'm going with the OME rear dakar leaf packs and bilstein 5100s all around. Not sure if Ill do full Nitro Chargers because I already have 5100s in front but with stock coils.

I'd recommend replacing the full leaf pack if you have high mileage. Not sure about the control arms though, I'm following this thread for a answer on that as well.

If you want to know if you'll need new upper control arms, the answer is no. You can get away with stock uppers if you keep the lift around 2-2.5". I have 3" of lift now and swapped to Light Racing ucas. Still waiting on an alignment. That' really the only difference with stock vs aftermarket ucas. Your alignment won' be back to spec.
