1999 Tacoma, heavily modified by previous owner.

I thought the ring and pinion gear were stripped because the rear end was making a grinding sound. Pulled it apart and it looks like the gears in the differential are stripped.

Does anyone know what make and model this is? The only markings I found was "DBX".

Well it looks like it is a lunchbox locker that has been welded?

Ive some dumb stuff but that....

He welded a lunchbox locker. Welded the part that is supposed to be forced open to engage the axles. Since its welded theres really no easy way of getting it. You might be able to cut it out somehow or get a whole new carrier/diff.

Can I cut the welds with a grinder, remove the lunchbox locker and use the factory gears like they arr?

No, that type of locker replaces the side and spider gears. You would have to source/install them.

Could I weld the stripped gears?

The gears on the side are stripped and slipping.

You can only weld one side. And if you could you really shouldnt drive around with a spool.

    Thank you

I just want something to get the rear end back under it. Maybe drive it around the yard. Be able to crank the engine and keep things lubed while wirking on it
