I just ordered the ARB Simpson III roof top tent yesterday. So now I need a bed rack for it to go on. I’d like to get your suggestions. I haven’t yet decided on whether to buy or design my own. I’m going to be using my truck for overlanding and possibly mild rock crawling. I’m trying to decide what kind of rack I need and what features I should look out for.

What are you all running for your bed rack? What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it? Are there any features you couldn’t live without? Also, what gear do you attach to your rack? I’m relatively new to overlanding and would love to get some more experienced input.

What kind of stuff do you put in the bed? Figure that out first, then get a rack (or design one) that is an inch or two taller than that. I really like the All-Pro rack, there's a kit that is a you-weld-it kit where you can make it the exact height you want. I think it comes in two different heights, too.

As for what stuff to put on it, that's up to you and what you end up needing easy access to. You could always just copy all the overlaner squids and put your maxtrax, rotopax, shovel, and hi-lift on it. You know, so everyone knows you're an overlander...

A better option is to just go out and wheel with your truck a lot. The more you drive, the more you'll realize what you need quick access to. If you hardly, if ever use a shovel or max trax, there's no reason to put them out on display on your rack. Hide them away for better security, and that'll give you more room for the stuff you DO need quick access to.
