I'm confused. Is there a special feature that upgrades a Tacoma to a TRD version? I want to know because I wouldn't mind putting a TRD decal on my bedside but not if I don't qualify as a TRD version Tacoma.

TRD off road has rear locker and progressive rate springs as well as Bilstein shock. TRD sport has stiffer springs, 17"wheels, color match mirrors and bumpers, and Bilstien shocks. They both have power outlet in bed.

It's your truck man, do what you think looks best. "TRD" doesn't really imply much more than cosmetics aside from differences in suspension and the rear locker for the OR model. But people customize TRD decals all the time.

If you really want to tick people off, put 'PRO' emblems on it lol. Or put 4x4 emblems/mudflaps on a 2wd :crapstorm:

I'd go with custom TRD stickers. Don't go for that lame faux-pro look people are suddenly popping a hard-on for.

That way you have something unique and don't look like you just pulled fenders off a wrecked TRD.

Steve it depends on the truck really. Alot of trucks can have the trd OR sticker that are not 4x4. This means they have a rear locker. Hense, TRD OR (locker)
If you have a 4x4 and the TRD OR sticker you have the TRD OR Package including the rear locker. This includes the following: Example part of my truck's build sheet...

Don't put any stickers on your truck. In fact, take all the badges off. Looks way better!

I never heard the TuRD thing until registering here. But then, this is my first Toyota. In the past, at least as it related to old Celicas and such, it was a good thing?

I did yank the too big stickers a couple weeks in along with the other badges. It does look better without them, to me.

I just don't need to advertise. I'm happier if peeps think I'm rocking a base 4x2, or whatever.

Hell, I'm pretty surprised by the whole Sport vs OR debate.

Just keep in mind a TRD is an option package and although you can recreate the options, its not a factory TRD. A decal is fine but dont try to sell it later as a TRD. Call it a TRD tribute vehicle and you wont get in trouble.
