So what kind of mods have you done to any of your military vehicles that make life a little easier or comfortable?

I've got a few longer-ish field problems and NTC coming up in a few months and want some ideas.

I'm in Field Artillery, my vehicle is a M109a6

Cut a pair of headphones and splice them into the ICS system for music. A hammock or a spare woobie to rig into a hammock. A jetboil for making your own coffee or dehydrated food.

I second crazysccrmd's suggestion about splicing music into the intercom system. We did that to our M113's and Bradleys with Sony Walkmans.

I also spent a couple of years in the Scout section in HMMWV's. We removed the stock seats and replaced them with reclining bucket seats pulled out of old cars at the PDO lot. The welder made new base plates for us so the seats matched the bolt pattern. Wow that made all the difference in the world.

(not sure if they still call them PDO lots, but they were full of abandoned/wrecked cars, mostly from soldiers who PCS'd back to the states and left their cars behind. We could scavenge them for parts).

All of our guns and cats had power inverters spiced into them come feild time. That way people could power their phones and such. I think on the gun you can stuff the bare end of the positive wire into one of the positve end of the lights above the #1 man and in the cat run wires from the battery. The vehicle should be grounded so stick the negitive wire under any accesable bolt. Other than that besides scrapping them for something with about 10" more head room theres not too much you can really do to them that will make them more comfy.

Put new license plates on it.
I once got a M998 up to 45 MPH. It overheated, and rattled to pieces.

It is a quick and easy mod, you don’t even need any tools.

I love vets. Dark humor at its finest.
People in the civilian world would look with disgust at such an "inappropriate" joke
    Oh f*** that's funny

I only posted my truck because we all walked away from it. Humor on that deployment went beyond dark. My platoon got into a little firefight and we were back on base talking about it, a dude from out HQ platoon stood there listening, and was like, “You guys are sick! Theres’s something wrong with you!” I should probably stop with the details there...

dysfunctional, sick fu*ks, delinquents.... I'll take any synonym of the above mentioned but somehow we get shit done without the bitching, moaning or complaining that some other folks are so accustomed to doing

Aside from the obvious blast, I don’t think any shrapnel went inside my truck (well it didn’t hit us at least). It was determined by EOD to be an anti-tank mine, so the blast went straight upward. It was pretty wild though, there was shit everywhere.

I am just thankful that the front tire triggered it, because if it had been the rear, I doubt I’d be alive. There’s not much armor back there.
