This is my 02 tacoma motor, I can't find it in any of my manuals, it's totally different than anything shown. Can someone help? I need to do a tuneup and don't know how.001 (Medium).jpg

Dude... seriously? look at your VIN im gonna take a stab and say its a 3rz

if you cant identify the fact you have one of the only two 4 cylinders offered in tacomas that are basically exactly the same, aside from displacement... you might wanna just let a shop do the tune up

Count your lug nuts. If you have 5 lug nuts then that's the 2.4l 2RZ-FE 4 Cylinder, and if you have 6 lug nuts then that's the 2.7l 3RZ-FE 4 Cylinder.

That's I4. Like Tyler was saying, if you have 4x4 truck it is 2.7, if it's 2WD and not Pre-Runner it is 2.4l. All 4x4 and 2WD Pre-Runners have similar design as far as engine and suspension goes - hence 6-lug wheels. All 2WD (not Pre-Runner) have 5-lug wheels, lower suspension and smaller I4 engine (that is 2.4l instead 2.7l).

Please give more detail about your truck and maybe more pictures not just from the top of the engine head.

As others said, helpful posts had already been made before the sarcasm started. Nothing wrong with a bit of sarcasm. If that offends you, you take yourself too seriously and likely need to lighten up a bit.

    But, to the OP's questions:

There aren't that many engines that Toyota has put in a 2002 Tacoma (3 to be exact, and one of has 2 more cylinders than pictured), so I'm betting you're looking at the wrong manual(s). Though I suppose it's possible someone swapped a different engine in it, but that looks like a pretty typical toyota 4cyl...

But, from my POV, you have a pretty steep learning curve between learning what engine you have/obtaining the correct manual, and then doing a tune-up on it.

Certainly don't be afraid to brush up those mechanic skills, but for the short term, have a shop do the work.

Thanks everyone, I do tuneups and other repairs on my 98 2wd tacoma, this motor looks a lot different, different plug wires and harder to get to the plugs, but the manual (Haynes Tacoma 1998 to 2004 ) doesn't show this style.
The sticker is worn out, I already looked, and my VIN just says 4 cyl. It is supposed to be the 2.7 liter, I have bought belts and other parts for that motor and they worked, so I assume that's what it is. My 98 has regular plug wires with boots, this looks a lot different. And even though I'm a girl I CAN do it if I have the proper instructions.

@yellowdog5 Use the Vin decoder provided above, it will tell you WHICH 4 cylinder you have. Plenty of women can wrench just go get a FSM from autozone

I did already know the engine size (2.7L ), its so different from my other truck and from the book I have, I thought the picture might help. if someone could direct me to the correct manual I can decide whether or not to take it to the shop.
