2009 4.0, I go with full synthetic 5w30. For the past couple of years it's been Castrol Edge. I would not hesitate to use any of the well known brands (Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, etc.).

My engine just hit 200,000 miles a few weeks ago. I've run synthetic since the first oil change, which I think was at 1000 miles. I do think I have a weak VVTi actuator, but other than that everything is operating normally.

Anyone know if there’s any good deals running right now on a decent synthetic 5w30

used to do the Mobil 1 online rebates. But they don’t do that anymore. It’s just stupid ones like enter win a chance to win a corvette and not win.

it used to be Walmart sale $23 + tax for a big 5qt jug minus $12 back rebate = $12 for a big jug all said and done. But again it seems they stopped doing that.

I could “ball out” and get Motul $44 a jug but uhh…that’s not gonna like add power or anything…

and quite frankly the fact after using random oils over the years my engine looks brand new inside, no varnish, no stain, no discoloration (pulled valve cover) tells me the 4.0 is not picky.

besides obviously synthetic > Dino (not 1932 anymore)

Was at Wally World yesterday and bought the synthetic 5 quart 5W30 for $18.98. That's not on sale, but I don't think it ever goes on sale.

Short and long answer: whatever brand meets API standard and is the cheapest.

2014 4.0L V6. Have never used anything other than full-sythetic 5W30: Valvoline, Castrol or Mobil 1 Truck & SUV if I can find it at Walmart when it's time for an oil change and I do this every 5,000 miles which is usually twice per year.

COSTCO / Kirkland Signature™ 5W-30 full synthetic, 3.5K-4K OCIs, since 62K miles when I bought the truck from 1st owner. Doesn't burn a drop of oil or coolant between oil changes.

Before that it was whatever the dealer was putting in at the documented 5K OCIs.

I've been using Wally World 5W-30 full synthetic since my truck had 5 miles on the odometer. Still runs great after 108,000 miles.

The Wally World blue plastic 5 QT synthetic 5W30. For now it's staying under $19, but prolly not for long. Seeing as the 2nd Gen V-6 takes 5.5 quarts, I also get a few of the one quart , which are currently $4.98. An oil change will cost approx $21.50 w/o filter.

One can never have too many light bars.
Pennzoil tastes the best. Has a nice crisp finish. If you taste it after aging it 5K miles it has a nice charred finish. Royal Purple stains your teeth.
