I've used Walmart brand super tech 5-30 oil in my 2000 tundra since new. I has 300,000 miles on it and it runs like the day I bought it. I have not changed the oil in my 2015 DCSB Off Road yet, only 4000 miles on it.

The synthetic stuff? I aways use super tech in my 2 stroke. It always seemed to work pretty good.

No the regular stuff. non synthetic. Matter of fact it is the clearest oil you can buy bar none. All other oil looks dirty compared to super tech.

Probably because of the lack of an additives package lol.

    No offense intended.

And that tells you what exactly?

I can give you a couple glasses of water to drink. One will make you sick as a dog, the other not. You won't be able to tell by looking at that either.

I would think they are the same oil manufactured in the same refinery with the only difference possibly being a different additive formula. It could also be the only difference is the color of the cap and the weight of course.

News flash, Mobil is Toyota's recommended oil of choice, for warranty purposes the dealer HAS to stock and use what is specified. and corporate does check as all lubricant orders go thru Toyota to the Mobil Lubricants distributor in the area.

YES many dealers have bulk tanks, it's cheaper to buy that way. the bottles and jugs cost money and add to the cost of the product purchase ( which gets passed on to the customer )

No. I guarantee someone like Castrol, Mobil, Volvoline, or Shell is making that oil for WalMart. The only difference is that it probably doesn't have much of an additive package, which reduces cost but also reduces its usefulness in cold temps, it's ability to resist forming deposits, and usefulness in long OCI's.

Oil is like gasoline. Blending/lubricants plant use oil from whatever is available. It's the "proprietary" additives that distinguish one brand from another.

Pretty much. Or Lubrizol. Or Murphy Oil. Or anyone who offers Walmart a good contract. It's very akin to gasoline.

Think of it like this: you pay a bit of a premium when buying gasoline from a big name like Chevron (or Exxon, Shell, etc). Why? The proprietary additive package and the Tier I qualification label. The major refiners* have their own in-house additive research and development, hence the higher price per gallon. When you buy cheap-o gasoline from Walmart or wherever, you're buying gasoline that has a very basic additive formulation if one at all, which why you save $0.20 per gallon. Walmart (and I'm just using them as an example) will contract with Company X to buy (and sell) Company X's gasoline at the lowest contractual price in exchange for Company X's ability to move inventory. You get what you pay for.

*The major exception is Valero. They don't have an organic proprietary additive package. The way Valero is able to now label their branded gasoline as Tier I is by contracting an chemical company to supply an additives package that allows Valero branded gasoline to meet Tier I qualifications.

Motor oil and other lubricants are very much the same way.

Refining is a very complex and convoluted business.

With that being said so you think the extra additive is worth it in south florida? We only get a handful of cold (freezing) days a year.

Post #23 contains the way to answer your question.

Do you meet the 'conditions' test(s)?

What does the lab result say?
