If you run synthetic, and change it often then you'll be fine with anything...

I run nothing but M1 extended performance in my vehicles and typically change it around a 10K interval, with the exception of my wifes 2006 Highlander Hybrid. On that one I've been running it about 15K between oil changes. So far, so good. 165K miles to date and not a tic or any other oil deprived engine noise.

10w30 and only have about 245xxx miles on my taco, it burns 0 oil and have waited sometimes about 8k miles without an oil change and still the oil level is always full and of course clean as a whistle on the other hand my F250 4x4 super duty burns oil like crazy and every 3k miles the oil comes out looking like mud, my f250 only has 148k miles.

Ive been using Mobil 1 0w-20 for the past 30k miles in my 1grfe with 10k mile intervals. Finally sent a sample off the Blackstone and got my results in today.

Look at the two bottles. Forget the weight of the oil. All oil mfg's make oil with different weights in the same style bottle. The bottles are the same style; different color.

Toyota does not make oil, nor do they force a particular brand on their dealers.

Your lack of knowledge in this area has nothing to do with your not being an oil guru, but not understanding the latitude dealers have with the products they use to service customer vehicles.

Been using M1 5w30 every 7,500 miles. Except currently running M1 0w40 because I thought I had 5w40 when I drained the oil, only to find out I only had the 0w40, which is for the bimmer.

I believe it's not the type of oil so much as it is the OCI.

Do you think the M1 filter has anything over any of the other big name brands? From a construction stand point, Toyota's filter seems to be as good as some of the top brands when cut open and examined. I can't remember if I saw that on this forum or another one but I'm sure Google could find it pretty quick.

The reason for the question is that I am going to give M1 Synthetic 5-30 a try and wonder if I should pair it with their filter but hear it is made by someone else...same damn comparo I was referring to earlier ...

I don't know if the M1 filter is any "better". I do know that it's designed to go up to 15K miles with M1's Extended Performance synthetic juice. So I figure it'll be just fine with my 5K OCI. Plus it's readily available at Meijer...where I get my oil...and it's no more expensive than any other premium filter.

Anyone have any objections to running rotella T4 10w-30 in the 2.7 4 cyl? I run T4 in most of my other vehicles... Just wondering if its too heavy...I am in cali too so sometimes it gets super hot out...

The people who built your truck know more about it than guys who hang out on car forums. Use what your owners manual tells you to use.

I use whatever synthetic is on sale and extend my oil change intervals based upon oil analysis

I don't think specific brands really do anything different than others but it makes people feel good. "I have used bobs motor oil in all my vehicles and I have never had an engine blow up"

We're fortunate to have a participant who knows more about the oil needs of a Tacoma than the people who built it.

Reread your owners manual and use the recommended weight unless you have a grad school degree in fluid mechanics. If you do, then feel free to believe you know more than Toyota.
