    mobil1 5w-30 synth with 315k+ miles on a 2013 v6....recently did blackstone lab test on oil-oil.jpg
& yes I change my oil every 5k,
so piss off to all those who dont like this....
read the results of the lab test & notice how good it is for your motors longevity to change oil every 5k miles

note- I dont think the specific brand of oil matters, rather that one changes the oil every 5k

no need to waste money on anything else

    total filter cost $335
    total oil cost $2010
grand total (oil & filters) $2345....interesting number, huh? lol

l don't know why you got pissed off other's opinions. No one is saying you or anyone else is wrong. People are just stating their thoughts on the subject.

    Unless l missed something?

Me personally. I think that changing the oil and filter regularly is more important than people everthinking the slight differences in chemistry of the oil.
But others feel differently for their own personal reasons. It's their truck so they have to be happy with the products that they use.
I change my oil every 8, 000kms (5,000miles) and use a Toyota filter. Keeps me happy.

    Just my thoughts.

Not sure if you did an echeck or regular rebate check but my echeck was in my spam folder.

Ive ran Pennzoil ultra platinum since my first oil change @ 20k. I got it on rebate a couple of times. I did try the Costco brand for 1 5k interval around 30 or 35k and it was by far the worst as far as mpg, etc. So I switched back to Pennzoil. Truck is @ 63k and change. Been using the toyota oem filters, 5k change interval. I think I have 1 oil change left for the Pennzoil, then I'll switch to mobile1 which I recently got on rebate. I received my check yesterday. I'll see how that goes for a while.
Average around 21.5-22 mpg every time with the Pennzoil, except during the recent winter months where I had a bed full of logs for weight, still 18.5-19 was bad with the extra 3-500 pounds.

With the rebates and oem filters, you can get a synthetic oil change for less that 20$ if you do it yourself. It's like a 20 minute job with a fumoto valve.
I find it kind of relaxing. Grease the zircs while waiting for the oil to drain, change the diffs, cabin air filter and transfer case every 15k, plugs every 30. Air filter and wipers ever 10k. All pretty basic maintenance. Only thing I wish was the transmission was easier.

Just did the first oil change since buying my Tacoma with Mobil 1 5W 30 High Milage and a Napa Gold filter. 220 000 Km and will hopefully use that combo until this truck breathes it's last breath :fingerscrossed:

I use Walmart brand synthetic 5w-30 in my 4.0. As long as you change your oil on a regular basis spending the extra money on Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc. is a waste. I've been driving over 50 years and have never had an engine failure caused by motor oil.

I did my 5 free changes at the dealer, which were conventional. I then switched to Mobil 1. I change it every 5k still, I never go more than 5500.

EDIT: Typically I get purolator pureOne oil filters. I've heard Wix are great, not too common around here though.

Note that it's not that I think Mobil is the best thing ever, it just comes so cheap ($22-25 for 5 quart jug at walmart). With conventional costing $3-4 a quart here, the cost difference is minimal to go Mobil 1. I think going synthetic in general is just better.

if you buy the Mobil 1 oil at the right time, you can get it for cheap. I just purchased a 3 pack of 0w-30 5 quart jugs from walmart online for 65.40 + 4.74 in tax = 70.14 shipped to my door in 2 days, or 23.38 per 5 qt jug. BUT WAIT, i just received my mail in rebate at 12$/5qt jug totaling 36 bucks.... so (70.14-36) / 3 = 11.38 for 5 qts of mobil 1 syn to my door after tax. DAYUM. + 4.50 for an oil filter, so under 16 bucks for a full oil n filter change of GOOD stuff, yup im doing that every 5k mile for the life of my truck for sure.

And honestly even if I did pay full price for oil, id still do it every 5k, oil is cheap. IE, in your case, 300k miles, for an oil cost of 2k$... if you went twice as far per oil change thats a savings of 1k$ over 300k miles... not worth it to me.

Also 300k miles on your 2013.... good lord, i thought i drove a good amount, my 2013 is at like 90k!

I agree, the big names aren't worth the price. Mobil 1 around here can be found as cheap as conventional

2011 4.0l. walmart 5w-30 full synth high mile specific. and toyota oem v8 oil filter. 6 quarts

name brand oils are a waste of money. walmart oil actually has a better wear rating than mobil 1

I've been using Mobil 1 and buying from Walmart for many years for less about $23 for the 5 quart jug. At that price and Mobil's spring rebate, it was brought down to about $12.50 for the jug. Got my rebate check for 4 jugs in the mail just the other day.

Exactly this. It’s a nobrainer to buy Mobil 1 with the rebate. My total cost for a synthetic oil change using a Toyota filter comes out to about $16 per oil change, which takes about 30 minutes to do thanks to my fumoto valve.( no tools and no mess). I change my oil twice a year. Once in November before it gets cold, and once in May before it gets hot.

Since my main mode of transportation is my KLR650, I pretty much the same schedule, along with a good wax job.

What is a fumotovalve? I have a 19 Tacoma and going to have my mechanic change my oil soon and put my summer tires on. Is this some sort of replacement for oil filter? Will it mess with the warranty?
