just checked my motor and transmission mounts
all have substantial flex, seems like time to replace

not to mention the engine flopping around hard when shifting,
which I hear can also crack the motor mount bracket area when off-roading

what mounts does everyone replace with? OEM?
Or are there upgraded ones on the market?

I run a factory transmission mount with the void filled with 3M polyurethane. It's a very well know secret to stiffen up mounts in the car
    community.

I tried this on my previous car. Very messy lol. You’ll feel more engine vibes at idle as well due to the firmness

I did this with TigerSeal on another car before, might try yours (Windo Weld). Heard of it many times.
Not sure if I should put it in an old mount, or buy a new one to treat it with.
I also found a "bolt mod" where it appears recommended to put a bolt through the center of the stock mount, as an additional reinforcement point. Maybe that would work combined with Windo Weld.

Is that a 1st gen upgraded mount working on a 2nd gen? Looks like it

Very interesting mount. What's the benefit of that over a stock replacement? Also, what is the install like on that? Easy, tough? How much was it?

I don't remember how much it was. I bought it years ago.. install wasn't too bad. The only thing which was a bitch was running the independent bolts through it. I think it would had been easier to do if he welded the bolts to the mount itself.

The benefit is that it has replaceable polyurethane mounts, and obviously I don't have to tell you the benefit of polyurethane.

Replace your mounts with genuine Toyota mounts!! OEM mounts are honestly the best you'll get. Toyota puts SO much development into quality design and materials. The best balance of low NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) and a fresh set will stiffen up the drivetrain for that "like new" feel. You will regret those stiff performance mounts when you're buzzing down the highway and clunking into gear, I guarantee it. These are not race cars or trophy trucks.

I replaced my engine mounts with OEM at 300k miles and it drives like new. The olds were visibly degraded and very flexible. Original trans mount was still like new so haven't replaced it yet.

Also, with the engine mounts removed is a great time to replace your exhaust manifold studs and nuts and gaskets (all with OEM of course). Thats what I did and it was very much needed as the studs were rusted badly.
