I hypermiled a trip up the state and back on Friday. then forgot i was on empty and did a couple of around town trips before I noticed my red light was on. Doh!

did a quick 2 gallon addition and then over to my regular gas station for a fill-up.

    355.miles and 2 gallons + 16.24g to fill up = 19.5mpg
my usual mix town/fwy is about 14-17mpg.

so 2-3mpg more = 2-3 gallons saved for the same dustance = $10-15 saved per tank refill.

but i will say that driving 80-85mph (getting 15-16mpg) and passing when possible can cut off a good 30 minutes or even an hour on a long trip.

It’s an UltraGauge MX. It was popular for 2nd Gen’s for a minute. I like knowing my trans temp for the most part. Scangauge is also available.

My light comes hone 280-295 miles in around town driving. Most longer road trips its 320. On the freeway it is more. Fuelly has my lifetime avg (about 100k i owned the truck) at 15.2. Around town i usually get high 14 low 15.
I am on pizza 33s, topper, bumpers, winch, full drawers, prinsu’s, full size spare, 2-3in lift.

My fuel light will come on around 550km (341.754 miles) and takes about 70LT (18.4gal) with 295/75R16 KO3+BR6 (87LB per corner) stock gears with 3" lift mostly highway. Speedo is dead on with GPS.

Anything over 100kph she starts to drink.
I am keen to see how 5.29 and a Tune effect this.... Now it almost never is in 6th.

I try and not run it down to where the light comes on, it's a habit I got into from my fuel injected dirtbikes, run those down to the where the light comes on frequently and you be replacing the fuel pump prematurely. The fuel in the tank is also the pump's coolant and it's lubrication, on the dirtbike the fuel can and will slosh away and deprive the pump of it's lubrication momentarily and shows up as gray carbon (brush) material in the fuel filter. To be honest I don't know how shallow the fuel is in the tacoma when the light comes on so it may be a non issue.

More importantly out here gas stations can be few and far between and distances big so operating in the last 1/4 tank of fuel has other risks.

Personal best for a tank to light on, 463 with 17.6 to refill for 26.3 mpg. I’ve had better mileage at 350 miles but never as far before the light came on. Been riding an E-bike which eliminates a lot of the short trips for my present commute up/down a hill. Better for the truck and my wallet.

    13.8mpg or 17/100km.

Skinny 33, Soft top, bed box and roof rack are my only constant loads.

Wish my mpg can be higher. *cries*
