What Muffler Should I put on my Taco??

Ok fellow taco owners i need help nothing major but still need some help.

First let me start off by explaining my problem then I will share my thoughts on it.

I have a 2001 double cab taco v6 auto trd 4x4 and i bought it 2 years ago when i graduated high school. I have always loved loud mufflers and who doesn't when there behind the right engine. Well i put a 40 series flowmaster with a turn down on my taco. Yes I know not a great move lol well im now in college and i drive around 60 miles a day and this muffler is getting really annoying and it doesn't help that it sounds about like a rice rocket or someone who put a v8 muffler on a v6.

So my question is what should i put on it besides the stock muffler.

My thoughts are maybe a magnaflow or something like this, i dont want to run a tailpipe which yes I know is very dumb because that would make it a lot quieter but remember im still young not wise yet lol

So please tell me your thoughts and opinions on this yes i would like it to still sound good and have a nice exhaust note but something a little bit quieter.

One last thing I am in college which means i cant drop hundreds of dollars into my truck right now so lets keep it pretty reasonable but any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

if you put a set of 2" 1/4 tail pipes behind that flowmaster it would sound sweet... other than that its a import v6 with overhead cams...not going to have the low end sound of a pushrod v8....I personally like vortex mufflers (made by cherry bomb) they are as loud as flow when you are in on it but quiter at low rpms or idle....also thrush turbo mufflers are great for nice cruising sound and throaty sound when at WOT number 17713 for 2"1/4 or 17715 for 2.5" they are like 19.99 from advance auto or summit/jegs etc

I've been thinking of an exhaust myself and I've had flowmasters before. I think the 70 series (from sound clips I've heard) seems pretty mellow but still gives the truck a bit of rumble that it currently doesn't have. I dunno..I wish I could hear one LIVE. I wanna put a CAT BACK with dual exit but I don't know if I could get a 70 series muffler with dual exits. Haven't researched that far yet.

 

I have A Gibson exhaust on the Taco and the sound is perfect. low growl, but not annoying.

 

Try the Dynomax super turbo; it's certainly one of the quieter high flow mufflers. I've had the same Dynomax cat-back on the Jeep for about 180K miles and it's been problem free. Also, ran just the muffler on an older 22R 4x4 for a number of years.

 

Perhaps you should look at the poll thats going on now about exhaust ? maybe it will give you an idea or perhaps you could contact these folks and ask them why they chose what they chose.

 

here is a clip of my flowmaster original 40 on my 06 prerunner with the 4.0 motor, doesnt sound ricey at all.....i wouldnt have it on there if it did(as far as im concerned anyway!!).



maybe yours has the "ricey" sound because of they turndown??

thanks!! nah, truck had just sat for a couple of days without cranking, kinda a white smoke actually......condensation. it was like 110 outside when i cranked the truck and let it run for a couple of minutes.

 

truck is relatively quiet at idle....cruising the interstate you can barely tell its there, until you get into the throttle and then it comes alive.
