Yah. Buell is a dangerous investment if you'd ever want to resell it, there are buell dealers around the country letting the 1200's go for like 4-5k, which is pretty dang tempting. Much the same though, ever buell I've ever seen on the track is also blown up. What year/displacement gsxr do you have?

I'm a bit biased, I don't do any street riding, so comfort is out the window...

Buell is by far the best looking bike on the road today. IMHO. I would opt for the firebolt for the wind protection though. then put the lightning foot pegs and handle bars on it for a little more upright comfort, if that's what you're looking for. Plus they handle like a dream. . . canyon carver. To bad HD cut the Buell line.

Dood! Ducati is a fancy name, alot of factory carbon fiber, a dry clutch. Those are about the coolest things I've known from ducati. I have AT LEAST 8 buddies that I ride with with 748/749/996/998 that have ALL blown up. Some are mainly stock motors, some are supersport motors.. the things grenade. SV is reliable as hell, (I know a guy racing on a 02' SV 600 in light weight classes with over 28 thousand miles and 6 race seasons with NO rebuilds...

parts are way way cheaper for the SV. Parts are way easier to come by for the SV, OEM and aftermarket. The bike is probably cheaper to insure because its not a ducati. The thing has decent performance and is fairly comfortable. GO SV.

(and its not just cuz I ride a 'zook..)

If those are your choices...go with the monster. But seriously consider the KTM Super Duke with the 990. One of the baddest machines out there.

    Maybe it's your buddies.
I put 10,000 abusive miles on my monster and it never gave me any problems.
And I have seen several with a lot more miles on them than that.
But you are correct, SV would be probably be cheaper in the long run.
And any naked bike is going to be cheap(er) to insure because it doesn't have plastics to replace if you dump it.

Ive known and ridden with tons of ducati owners all ride pretty hard and never a problem your buddies must bag em and never service or something, I agree parts are cheap for the SV but they should be suzuki uses cheap materials in all there bikes street dirt etc (Ive owned 4 gsxr 750's) awesome bike all around but quality not close to honda or yamaha. Have you ridden an SV650? I took a 650 and 1000 out and it has shit brakes shit chassis I'd rather have a VTR1000. just my .02 :)

most of my bikes were gsxr 600s(great bike) so im kinda biased with them. all above are nice to look at but, i would never ever ever buy an harley of any kind. with the suzuki you will have zero headaches, just get on and go,with the monster you will have some maintainence but still a sweet bike and power, and with the buell you will have a big pile of shit that will always leave you stranded and always at the dealer

Well as a Ducati owner of a few Ducs I will say that if you have the money and want to ride something a little different than everyone else, Get a Duc! Are they expensive? Yes. Are parts expensive? Its like getting ass raped! Are they as reliable as a jap bike? Probably not. Is a Ducati parked next to a jap bike like parking a Ferrari next to a Kia? YES! They are sexy unique bikes that will get looks from people. I've only had one problem with my bikes, (knock on wood) my 999 had a bad kickstand switch that would kill the motor. I took it in and they fixed it free of charge. As far as your services, if you take it to the dealer they will get you for about $500 for your 600 mile service and $1000 for your 6000 mile..not cheap but you can work on your own bike too. Doesn't take a genius. As for the people who know people that have torched their motors, I would say its probably operator problems and not the bike. You cant ride wheelies all day on ducs or they will starve of oil do to where the oil pick up is. Someone mentioned that their buddy races Ducs and has to push them across the finish line...also operator problems. Obviously Ducati is doing something right considering they've won 8 of the last 10 world superbike championships! So hopefully that clears up some of the Ducati bashing. I would say all those bike are good choices and pick the one that will make you the happiest:D Any bike is a fun bike! If you want more info on ducs I would recommend checking out ducati.ms Its a pretty good forum that might answer any questions you have. Good Luck!
