I've been using Amsoil in all my previous vehicles since the mid 1990's. Two diesel pickups, a Harley, 2 Yamaha sport bikes, and now my Tacoma. Have only done one oil change in the Tacoma so far, at just under 5,000 miles.

I go with Toyota’s branded oil and filters with dealer oil changes. First at 1150km, second at 8000km and third at 15,000km. (719m, 5000m and 9375m). At 15,000km I did a trani flush and fill.

I do short trips to work (8.8km / 5.5m). I tow an 14’ enclosed trailer occasionally. So I consider my use to border on severe use even though for the most part it is it is pretty light duty.

I know some may question my intervals and especially the trani flush and fill. This is my first new vehicle and I am unsure if I am going new again in a few years or keeping it forever or eventually turning it into a wheeler. Either way I am 100% in control of the maintenaince of this truck. If the trani issues some are having turn into something later (I requested the level checked at PDI and was assured it was done) I should definitely be covered now. This is all about doing what it takes to ensure my warrantee covers my ass and beyond that I know I will have the best maintained truck around if I do keep it long term.

I'm a member of the Toyota 400,000 mile club and use genuine Toyota everything except for engine oil I use Mobil 1 10W-30 (5W-30 in winter) instead of the Toyota 0W-20 because all over the world (except the USA) Toyota owners manuals say it's OK to use 10W-30 in the 2TR-FE 4 cyl for temps above -10 degrees F and OK to use 15W-40 at temps above +10 degrees F. In other words, 0W-20 is a politically inspired viscosity (helps maximize fuel economy) rather than the best viscosity to minimize engine wear. I've used Mobil 1 ATF in the power steering systems of all my Toyotas since the 1980's and none have ever developed leaks or other problems.

This guy put over 1000000 miles on his 07 V8 tundra putting i n nothing more then the cheepest thing the dealer can find, no $15 a quart amsoil or oil changes ever 3k. He just stuck to what the book said and when they tore the truck apart it was still rated a 7 out of 10. So I am not sure any of this makes a diffrance. Just put in any of the top brand stuff and do it every 10k and your fine.

Valvoline everything but the front diff and T case. I use Supertech gear oil in those and change it every 20k miles since its under 30$ to change both.

Toyotas typically don't burn oil. Why need a gauge?
People typically obsess over oil brands and oil change intervals because of two reasons:
    1. It's one of the few things left that a weekend warrior can still do and understand and
    2. There is a grey area on intervals because garages want you to change it a lot ($$$$ for them) and most people's Dads changed it at 5K.. before synthetics.

OP, get ANY brand 0W-20 and change it every 10K. You will go as many miles as you wish doing these two simple things. This is not a Subaru engine.

Do any vehicles have oil level gauges, seems redundant since you have a dipstick to check.

He had to pay for two timing chain jobs at a cost of probably $2,500 in parts and labor each since the 2007 Tundra V8 has FOUR timing chains and tensioners. Thin viscosity oils have long been known to result in deminished timing chain life in Toyota engines.
