Use a high quality synthetic, and make sure you monitor the oil level. My truck takes about 5.4 quarts of Valvoline full synthetic (it's cheaper other synthetics) at every change. I say about beca use I just estimate after 5 quarts. I noticed that the truck runs louder and seems sort of sluggish of it's not perfectly topped off. It's like night and day. If it's low like .2 quarts, it completely alters acceleration. Strange but true. I add just a little more oil to completely top off, and the truck runs completely smooth, and accelerates like a new truck. Never had a vehicle that acts like that. After about 2 months, the truck normally starts getting noisier and starts to feel "heavy", and then I know it's about .2 quarts off from full. It's the weirdest thing. I'm at 109,000 miles, so maybe it's just the truck getting older and burning a tiny amount of oil.

so you, a jet engine mech, are telling us how the military cared for it's trucks? And trying to condescend to me? that's rich. it's just interesting to me how you play the expert, but clearly are not. Not that I am, but I'll call BS when it's needed.

if by new military you mean 23 years now, then yes i am new military.

Welcome to TW. So 4.6 oz of oil makes a difference in performance. That is amazing. That is why these oil threads are so valuable. You just never know what you’ll learn.

I've run 5w30 Mobile 1 full synthetic for the entire life of my 60k miles. Mobile 1 102 oil filter as well. You can run it for 5k miles, but I've always changed it at 3k. Old habits. And good luck checking your oil level with that dipstick. It's retarded.

This is unscientific since they did not test other brands of oil against Mobil 1. You don’t know if you would have used another cheaper oil if you would have got the same results or even better. This is simply marketing strategy.

Another useless oil thread. The internet must hate the OP as there have been only 90 responses. Normally, there are tons of people flapping their gums about oil.
