...I agree with you about the part of "might as well not have anything in there at all" if you're that scared about it
If someone breaks into my truck, they'll make off with literally about half of all the valuables (I don't just mean financially; I mean survival-wise) I own
I always lock up, and throw a blanket or something over all that stuff...
But, the "victim of the infectious "fear"..." comment is a little presumptious; unless you're living in a small country town, it's not just manufactured paranoia that there's an actual and significant threat of getting ripped off - I, and almost everyone I know, are actual victims of actual theft

Yeah, it was a little snarky, sorry bout that. No offense intended.

I've been ripped off, had thousands of dollars of my shit stolen, have had stuff of mine stolen out of buddies' vehicles, but I wont let that deter me from living life on my terms. I can do my best to prevent such thefts, but if someone want to break-in, they will do it regardless. I have insurance for a reason, my gun is registered for a reason, my prints are on-file for a reason, and if I were to ever "catch" someone in the act of attempting to break-in to my truck - that's a free pass to kick some ass IMHO.

    ditto

Like I said, I also won't let that stuff deter me from living
They say "desire & opportunity" are the two keys in commiting crime
I just do the best I can to eliminate desire by throwing blankets or clothing over my B.O.B., weapons, tools, etc.
And, If if it's practical, I don't leave my vehicle unattended in a place that provides ample opportunity

What else are you gonna do?
I'd rather risk getting ripped off than risk getting broken-down or into a bad situation without my recovery, survival, and assualt gear

Having a stereo or some tools stolen sucks. But from a liability perspective, it's totally different than having a loaded gun stolen. Not to mention the whole 'explaining why you left a loaded gun in your car to the cops' conversation. That's all I was implying. I don't know, maybe that's legal in your state. Not so much where I live. I love my guns, too, but it's not worth the risk to me.

I'm assuming, when it's possible and practical, he's carrying it; not leaving it in the vehicle

Understood. I was referring to the red part. That would make me nervous every minute I was away.

    Word, me too
As far as legality; in my state it is legal, providing you have a concealed weapons permit, to keep a loaded weapon in your vehicle unattended

My bare hands. Your tax dollars taught me to defend and kill without any tools. Unfortunately I have had to do just that in order to be here today.

I think you guys got the wrong impression from my posts. To further clarify, I DO NOT keep it loaded unless I am in the vehicle or have it on my person. Otherwise it's locked in it's case unloaded, locked in the vehicle, or securely stored in my house. Another factor is my living situation. My g/f operates an in-home preschool out of our house. I DO NOT keep the gun in the house during Preschool hours, simply because of the liability and addtl. paperwork/forms/disclaimers that would need to be adhered to, even with my CPL. I do not own any other guns, nor do I have money to buy a fixed safe/vault to keep in the house (so that seems unnecessary to me).

After the concerns you guys brought up, I have decided to build a locking strap that will securely bolt to the frame and wrap over the XDm case itself when stored in the truck. That combined with the locks on the case and locks on the doors will make it nearly impossible for any would-be thief to remove or open the case if they HAPPEN to find where it's located. Granted with some power tools and ample time, it could be done, but then again anything is possible if there is desire and opportunity.

I appreciate your guys' concern and input, and I hope you don't think of me as an irresponsible Taco/Gun owner. I hope to get plans drawn-up for the locking strap this week, and I may create a thread about it to get input and maybe spark some ideas for others to safely and securely store their sidearms if needed.

Keep whatever you are best trained to use. When you get in some shit, you will do whatever your muscle memory is trained to do. doesn't matter what you got, need to know what to do with what you got when stress climbs and chemicals produce in your blood.

Me, an axe handle, im fully trained with an axe handle...

If they break into my truck, the axe handle is not much street value, and wont kill innocent by-standers.

In the state i'll be moving to it would be legal for my to keep a firearm loaded, attended or not in my vehicle.

In that state the vehicle is a extension of the home.
