What problems do high miles Tacomas have?

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
I'm attempting to convince the CFO(wife) that I need a Tacoma. The budget will probably mean that I'm looking at an '05-'08 with more than 100k miles. At that mileage, what issues do I need to look for that are particular to the Tacoma? I'm trying get at what the more expensive maintenance items are that hopefully the previous owner took care of. I.E., Land Cruisers are known for needing the pesky heater hose replaced. Land Rovers seem to need head gaskets by about 75k, lol. A lot of full size trucks are due for a new tranny. The only thing I've seen so far is that Tacoma's seem to go through front wheel bearings.

So, if you've got a higher mileage Tacoma, have you had to fix anything that was expensive?

    Thanks

At 80k now, just need to change diff and transfer case oil, and that's it.

at 100k, if I make it there without needing to, I'll be replacing front wheel bearings. Factory drum brakes are still perfect, factory anti-freeze is still perfect, water pump is perfect, hoses are perfect, no metal in oil pan, no burning oil, trans seems perfect, just need to replace idler pulleys because there's mud in the bearings and they're whining.

Other than that, 100k is just breaking in the 1GR-FE motor. As long as the maintenance has been taken well care of, oil changes, etc...should last you a long time. Resale value drops a bit after 100k, but that's true for most cars.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
I put a rear u joint in on mine at about 150 k and I got one with grease fittings from oreillys for like $16. Dropped the tranny pan and cleaned the filter and refilled at 160k and 4 quarts cost like $20 I think, also got a soap pump lookin thing to fill with otherwise I could see it being a pita. Got 170k on it now drives good has a slight shake at 60 mph + prolly gonna get realigned soon but tires are wearing evenly so no real concern. I bout mine with 142k and justified that by it being a Toyota and prolly wasn't even broke in yet. Check the oil cap and make sure there isn't tar built up on it or visible and make sure the dip stick isn't scorched and u should be good.

im at 204K got it when it had 130K.... supercharged and all ive had to do is engine oil, diffs oil, transfer case oil, and transmission oil, and anti freeze. just regular stuff and suspension regular stuff :) but mines a 98 first gen. so it was build when they actually cared about quality. I've seen more 2nd gens having problems with stuff that make you say Dafaq then 1st gens.

Mine is stock suspension and has 265/75/16 tires on some aftermarket wheels with some more than stock backspacing. I did maybe 10k miles on these. Then I have FJ wheels with stock size 265/65/17 winter tires on them with a little more backspacing than OEM Sport wheels. I did maybe 3k miles on these.

Than I had to replace both front bearing at 85k.

For the first 70k miles or so, I ran OEM Sport wheels with stock Duellers. Never offroaded.

Maybe its just my luck, but in my research it seems like bearings go often on these trucks.

Some of this Some of that
Seems like most trucks just need wear items like wheel bearings or brakes, or belts, or oils and stuff. Nothing crazy

Bought new in 06, TRD Sport 6 speed. Now 116,000 miles. One set of tires, oil changes every 5,000 with Mobil 1. Just did URD TO bearing upgrade and front pads @115,500. Just like new, again.;)

I'm at 77k with no major issues. I'm draining the trans pan, changing diff fluid, and doing new rotors and pads up front. I should probably swap the serpentine belt soon too, I guess. Oil is every 7k (synthetic) but other than that, no issues.

    Lab,
I'm fortunate my son owns a shop, lift is a huge plus.:D Not very difficult but time consuming took us most of the day, 4 1/2-5 hours. Also did the shifter upgrade as well. Good part, no more squeak.
