They are definitely functional. With a net at the back, it's almost like having a trunk.

I got a Vanish roll up soft cover. $350. Sorry I don’t have a picture yet of it rolled up, but when rolled up it is very compact. There are also two aluminum poles that roll up with it that give it support. C3EBCBB6-0221-40F7-9AD0-2A7669FB0961.jpg

I’m running the North Mountain roll-up like others here. I got it after reviews and watching the YouTube install video. I liked the simplicity of the single pull for release. I couldn’t beat the price @$120 or so on eBay. Even better if you catch a $20 or $25 off coupon window. I have recently posted a review in another thread...sorry, forget which one.

    EDIT: this one

This is a renamed North Mountain cover. To answer your question - yes with some stitching/mounting. Since it is essentially a long cover, you are just detaching and moving further back. You will have to account for that shortening by cutting the side runners and remove and reattach the vinyl over the forward end piece.

That is a good question - I asked myself that back when I was buying. The 3rd Gen 5’ went temporarily unavailable from all the suppliers and I pondered other solutions like that. Everything I read ‘seemed’ to indicate they were different (threads on caps, hardcovers), but I couldn’t find anything to confirm for me that it would work. They came back in stock and the cost differential was $20+, so it became moot for me.maybe someone with actual experience will chime in...
